Default Folic Acid

I've heard taking folic acid can help reduce the chance of having a baby with spina bifida or other open neural tube defects. When I went to the pharmacy, I was told to take a certain amount each day, but the folic acid pills are twice that amount. Does anyone know whether I should be cutting the pills in half, or is it okay to take one every second day? I will be talking to my pharmacist again, but I'm interested in what you've been told since I seem to get a different story from whoever I ask. Thanks.

You need to call your doctor and find out about the correct dosage. I just did a project on vitamins and supplements needed for women trying to conceive and folic acid is something that has been proven to be highly beneficial. I wouldn't take a pill every other day --- you need the folic acid on a daily basis. Definitely call your dr and ask what you should take. He or she can give you the right information.

Thumbs up Folic Acid

I am a phlebotomist who loves looking up stuff for my patients.
Its true that it helps prevent birth defects..There are no side effects or warnings about taking more. Folic acid is not stored in the body, so you need it everyday. Check out the "March of Dimes" site to learn more..
