Default Frugal Meals

What are some meals that you make that are low-cost and still taste good? I've ordered a frugal cookbook, but I would love to hear what recipes are working well for your family.

One frugal dish that my family likes is Tater Tot casserole.
Just brwn. 1 lb. gr. beef
add 1 can crm. of mushroom, and 1 can cr. of chicken
put in a 2 qt. casserole dish, top with some shredded cheddar, put some frzn. tater tots on top of that, and throw in the oven for 45 minutes at 350.
The whole meal costs about $5 or $6.00, and feeds the whole family.
I add diced onion & corn to my casserole.

I make "spaghetti" with macaroni pasta and ground beef. It feeds an army and you just throw it all in one pot. It's on the food blog if you want the recipe

Here's one we tried last night, and it was inexpensive. I got the recipe from a magazine. It's called bubble pizza.
Layer a sprayed 13 by 9 pan with a can of buttermilk biscuits.
Top off with browned gr. beef that's been mixed together w/ a jar of pizza sauce.
Toss in oven for 25 minutes at 400. Then pull it out, and throw some mozzarela & cheddar on it. Put it back in for 5-10 minutes.
That's it, and the whole meal cost me about $6.00. It was tasty too. I'll make it again.

Yes, please check out the Food blogs. I know we have some more pricey recipes, but many of the ones we blog about are simple and thrifty!

Do you know the fat grams?
I usually fry my tater tots. I have all the ingredients to make this. I might have to try it this weekend Break out some of my pyrex bakeware

I like to boil angel hair/thin spaghetti and mix it with a clove or 2 of minced garlic (fresh is best) sauted in lots of butter and salt. Then add parmesean cheese (fresh or Kraft). Someitmes I will saute shelled shrimp in the garlic/butter and and throw that in too. My 9 yr old son loves it, and it can be cheap to make.
Pasta= free after sale+coupon or about .89 for the box
garlic= about < $.10 if it is on sale for 2/$1per bulb
parmasean cheese= ?? if on sale + coupon maybe $2 for
the sprinkle bottle or if on sale+ coupon $.05-$.67 per fresh bag.

If you go fancy and add the shrimp it may cost you $7-$8 just for the shrimp unless you have a wine tag coupon or other type of coupon making it cheaper.

Default stir fry

Last night we had a simple stir fry for dinner. I bought a $2 bag of stir fry vegetables (they weren't even on sale), and used chicken and some chinese sauces I already had on hand (hoisin, oyster sauce, and soy sauce) to complete the meal. Total, this meal cost probably around $4 and served two. It was great, too, because it only took me about 10 minutes! I could have even spent less money on the meal by buying my vegetables fresh and chopping them myself.
