Default Frugal Success on Craigslist

Greetings,
I have had good success selling things on Craigslist. Just the other day I sold a computer desk that I no longer needed or wanted for $10.

It is totally free to place your classified ads on Craigslist. You have no guarantee that your item will sell but at least you have not paid one cent for advertising it.

You have the advantage of including a picture so people can actually see your item. The best policy is that you are honest in the condition of your item in your description so a potential buyer knows what to expect.

We have even given things away for free such as a toilet that had a crack in it. We advertised that it had a crack but would make an excellent planter. It felt very frugal to advertise this for free instead of us having to pay in someway to dispose of it.

It feels good to be frugal!

Mary

Mary, please be aware that by putting your phone number out there, you are taking a risk which may not generate the results you wish for. The link in your sig appears to be dead. You might want update that, and to reconsider posting your phone number. I am leaving it up because you have been with us for a while, but please use caution. If this is a personal number or is listed with personal information, I encourage you to remove it.

Thanks Janet,
I did remove my #. I use my number with the best feelings but realize that I ultimately don't have control over how it may be used or called.

Would you mind letting me know if my link is working. It is working for me when I clicked on the link in the signature and I believe I checked it yesterday before I posted. On Saturday I had made a change in the hosting and it took a little while for it to catch up to the change but it appeared to be resolved.

Sincerely,
Mary

This is the suggestion my hosting company said when my site was not showing up. I know the site is working so this could be why you are not seeing it - if this even applies any more.
It appears that the website may be cached in Firefox.
Please clear your cache by doing the following:
FIREFOX 2.x:
1. In the address bar, go to Tools->Clear Private Data
2. Select "Cache" and unselect the other.
3. Click "Clear Private Data now"

Mary

P.S. I started a thread on this forum for frugal selling on Craigslist. We just sold some drain tile we no longer needed on Craigslist. We love Craigslist!

I recently moved from 2400 sq. ft. to 1400 sq. ft. and sold all of my excess furniture, artwork, etc., on Craigslist. I also post my husbands business on it and he has gotten a few jobs.

Household type items seems to sell the best - at least that has been the case for us. Did your items sell quickly?

We just sold a child's activity desk and chair and got a nice price for it that the person that bought it was happy with too. That is another thing I like about craigslist is that you can sell things for a better price than garage sale prices.

I have posted a few clothing items and don't have as much luck with those. I would welcome any posting tips for clothing if anyone has any.

Freecycle has been a better place for me to get rid of stuff than Craig's List. CL people will more often not show up than freecycle people. I sold a couple of quality items using CL recently, but got very little money for them. Not that I would consider going back to Ebay, because they're now very unfriendly to small sellers.

Any way you look at it, it's tough to sell things these days for a decent price. I had a fine antique oil painting for sale at a Manhattan auction house, and it went for less than half the appraised value. Not good!

Flaming, have you tried outgrown sales? My neighbor sells things twice a year at them, and she does very well.

I have to say we had very dismal results with a garage sale we held recently that we advertised and did all the things that should work, seems people are no longer shopping garage sales as much.

We don't like the idea of people coming too our home to look at items in this day and age. Consignment stores are getting pickier now to it seems so we donated a lot of the items and get a larger tax writeoff at least.
I read an article that said items that come from a smokers home are considered hazardous
