Fundraisers
I just read an article in Child magazine about fundraisers. It was very interesting. I know that my husband perfers that when my kids come home with fundraising stuff, that I just donate money to the school, instead of them getting just a portion of it, but I never really thought much more about it. There are coorporations getting filty rich off of our children being their "salesmen." One statistic has said that in 2001, product fundraisers raised $2 billion for our schools, which also means that the companies that are behind those sales also made at least that much. I know that some fundraisers such as book fairs, I don't have too many problems with because Scholastic sells their books at a fairly good price and I buy books for my kids anyways, and some of the proceeds go back to the school, AND my kids aren't out there selling them. I am not part of my children's PTA, but I have to wonder why they aren't doing more involved fundraisers. I have heard of "art" auctions and anyone (including the children) could donate art to be autioned off, ALL proceeds going to the school, or bake sales, carnivals, craft fairs, and I am sure there are many other ideas out there if we would just use our imagination. What does everyone else think about all of this?
