Ok, everybody have that written down? Good. Now I'll continue with his birth story.
Thursday morning everything was running smoothly. I had a decent night of sleep and barely stirred when Shaun's alarm went off at 5:30. When my first alarm went off, I hit the snooze and rolled over to his side of the bed. 10 minutes later ~7 on the dot~ my alarm went off again. This time my water broke at the same time. I went over to the bathroom awaiting the further gush. (Yes, apparently when my water breaks it is movie theater quality.) I then woke the boys for school and started my long string of phone calls to get everything set into place. I didn't even start having contractions until around 7:30. We finally left the house with everything we needed just before 8:30. By then my contractions were getting a bit regular and stronger. Thanks to the half busted shocks and struts in my van and the really cruddy weather conditions as well as the crappy shape Highway 69 is in, my contractions got longer, stronger and more frequent. My body was trying to push when we were a few blocks from the hospital. I was already to 8 cm when they first had a chance to check me. Within 10 minutes of arriving at the hospital, I had been poked 4 times by needles ~3 for IV and 1 to draw blood~ , my patient ID tag slapped on and my baby boy delivered naturally~an impromptu VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean).
Needless to say, this was not at all as I had expected. I expected to be spending Thursday finishing up laundry and making final arrangements involving the boys in preparation for my Friday morning scheduled c-section. I guess Mother Nature had other plans for me. I still had my bilateral tubal ligation done the day after his birth. I lucked out with that. Normally the mother is required to be put under general anethesia. I got the option of that or getting the typical spinal block as a woman having a c-section would get. I had no pain after his birth. I only required 2 stitches. So because I hadn't had any pain and required no other meds my doc gave me the option. I took the block over the general anethesia. In a few hours after returning to my room I was up and around again. I came home Saturday afternoon. A litte sore but only from my surgery to get my tubes tied. Been taking my prescribed Motrin (which reminds me I missed the midday dose today~oops) but other than that I am doing great. Probably doing a couple of thigns I shouldn't be yet. I've been going with the 'If it hurts, stop doing it.' guideline.
Anyhoo, I'm getting tired and probably should start getting ready for bed. Good Night!
