Well I woke up on Tuesday (my EDD) at a little after 5am with a cramp that was kinda bad but much like the start of my AF, so I just went to the bathroom then back to bed, Joe's alarm went off at 5:15 and at almost the same instant I had another cramp, Joe hit the snooze button to doze for a few more minute and just before the alarm went off again I got my 3rd contraction and because of the alarm I knew they were about 8 mins apart (Joe's alarm snooze is 8 mins); I told Joe was having contractions and he asked if I wanted him to stay home and I said it might be best if he did, so he rolled over and went back to sleep; I rang mum to let her know then the hospital, I was certain that the hospital would just tell me to stay at home at that time but just wanted to check in case they wanted me in earlier due to the bleeds I had had during pregnancy.
By lunch time I was somewhat uncomfortable at home plus I was having a little leaking, was fairly sure it was just urine or maybe cm, but thought it was best to be checked, so we went to the hospital and about 3pm they check cervix and leaking and I was leaking nor had I began dilating, but was definitely in labour, so we were sent back home. At about 6pm I really was uncomfortable and although I didn’t feel that contractions had gotten that much closer together I wasn’t able to talk through them anymore so we were back at the hospital. By 8pm they checked my cervix again and this time I was 5 cm dilated so I was admitted into a delivery suite. I was shocked on how much I had dilated in them 5 hours and thought it might not take too long to finish dilating (another 5 hours maybe, of course I was still expecting an hour or more of pushing too)
Not sure at what time but I ended up having gas, at first it was a case that I could feel myself wearing out and I wanted something so I could get some rest, which it did along me to rest between contractions. About midnight they checked cervix again and I had only dilated another cm, so we decided to break my waters to help speed things along. By about 6 am was finally dilated enough to push and at 6:34 Gabrielle was born. I have a tear but it’s not very bad, the only reason they stitched it was cos they were worried about it possibly not healing right.
Had a problem with my reflux during labour, keep throwing up anything I ate or drunk so all I could have was ice
