Default Going Green: Using or Sewing Fabric Grocery Bags

Going Green is the phrase to describe helping save
our environment.

Going to the grocery store,
are you using paper bags, plastic bags, or your own
reusable cloth bags?

Did you sew them?

Did you buy them?

Do you wash them after using?

What about concerns with germs like raw chicken or raw meat?

Please share....

I bought mine. I have a special one for meat and a special one for eggs and one for bread too (they're special colors and I labeled them with permenant marker lol) I wash the ones with eggs and meat but the rest I wash only if they get dirty. The checkout person usually complains about having to pack them because I guess it's harder....but I hate having so many plastic bags around my apartment.

This isn't actually Sams by the way

In the UK shops don't display disposable bags, we don't have paper bags either, we just have plastic ones. You can buy ones made out of recycled plastic bottles from Tesco and material and plastic ones from all supermarkets. In september you cannot have any free bags from shops, I heard it may be changing to April though. We use fairtrade cotton bags from the co-op.
We don't buy meat from supermarkets but the butcher always vacuum packs it, so I don't see the point of washing a bag because a lump of plastic has been inside of it.

We use them and bought ours. I have a special one for meat to keep things cold. But truthfully--it's wrapped in extra plastic so I'm not that concerned.

i've been wanting some, but DH always seems to be with me and he thinks my green & organic "obsession" is silly. (he'll thank me in 30 years) i was thinking about sewing some, but i don't know if i would be able to sew them strong enough.
