I Need to drop about 20 pounds. Exercising and what I currently eat is not working, so I am trying to to vegetarian (not vegan) to lose the weight. Any suggestions as to what are the best tasting non-meat products that I would be able to find in most stores?

Reason: make a mistake
i have been a vegetarian most of my life, and it really isnt very hard. My favorite meat-less products are from morning star farms (their chick-patties and their buffalo wings---both made with soy). boca makes a spicy chick patty that is pretty good and their "burgers" are good. you can also get tofu from the produce section and use it in countless ways (i am not very good at cooking tofu, but i have friend's that are). other sources of protein are nuts and beans and dairy. good luck on your goal!!
Well I dropped 10 pounds. Out of sheer whatever. probably running around all the time. The veggie diet is not bad at all. A substitute called "Soyrizo" is pretty tasty sausage-type sub for Chorizo.
Thanks for your kindly advice.
I like hummus with veges - it is high in protein, and tastes yummy. Also with the texture, I don't feel quite like I am living on rabbit food. You have to watch your portions though - it's not really all that low cal - but better for you than creamy dips.
For about two years I was an ovo-lacto vegetarian and didn't lose any weight. By itself alone, it's a good idea to give up meat, but if you like cheese and beans and rice you aren't going to cut calories. Lean means like chicken filets are lower in calories.
I love vegetarian foods, like eggplant parmigan and pasta and ricotta cheese, so I didn't suffer much not eating meat. I never went back to red meat when I gave up being a vegetarian.
