Default Governor Spitzer of NY wants tighter restrictions on video game sales to children

http://www.criminaljustice.state.ny....flashpage.html

This is the video that is on New York State's website to inform parents about video games and encourage legislation to restrict sales of games intended for mature audiences to teens and adults.

I don't think there is any reason why a 9 year old should be familiar with Grand Theft Auto. Even if it is played by adults and teens in the household, there should be rules in the household. I know that we used to have rules agreed upon as a family for use of the television and video games when the youngest was really little.

This presentation is long. I would like to know what video game enthusiasts think of it, and what parents think about the ratings system and Spitzers ideas.

We are a gaming house...have an x-box, x-box 360, game cube, a wii and a couple computers. BUT.... under no circumstances would I let my child play teen-Adult games! We have them...but we play when the kids are asleep and I guess I'm lucky I'm a SAHM as I know what my kids are up to.

I think that kids have access to these games as mom and dad are not home to supervise them. Personally I think the people who make the consoles should allow parents to put a parental control on them...I think our wii lets us limit what kind of games are played and It also lets you know what games where played and how long...a feature you can't delete.

Personally, I think every parent should be responsible for his own children, and not to restrict the games.

As a child, I used to play many video-games, Adult and none-adult ones.
I was allowed to play because I -knew- stuff like that can't and shoudn't be done in real life, unlike most kids.

So I see no problem, as long as children understand that games are games, not real life.

Did you see the video? The sight of that little guy talking about killing prostitutes really chills me. That just is not in childhood's experience.

I'd like to know if the information in the video is accurate.

I didn't watch the video, but I have an issue with video games all together. I mean, they're ok on a limited scale, but I'd NEVER allow my kids to be enslaved by them. Wii is the dumbest thing yet...go out and play the REAL game for crying out loud!

Do I think Grand Theft Auto is raising more automobile thieves? No. I think either kids will, or they won't commit crimes. If they want to, they'll learn what they need to know from their friends.
