Default Grad Rings...Worth it? or Wait?

Do you think a high school graduation ring is worth the price? Should you wait until you teen graduates from post-secondary? Some of my friends think it is a waste of money.

I have my thoughts, but what do you guys think?

I didnt get mine either. Dh got his only to have it stolen from the gym with his gym bag three days before Graduation. My mom ordered my little brothers and sisters from Walmart they can engrave the school name and the kids name and they are cheaper for the same thing plus they have some nicer designs. My older sister bought her own from the highschool and was told her birthstone was a genuine stone. She had some issues with the stone almost falling out took it to a jeweler and we found out the stone was fake. She paid alot of money for hers and it was fake. I wouldnt invest in one personally I would order from walmart.

I received my class ring as a present for my 17th birthday. Mom took my to Wal-Mart to pick out what I wanted. It came in the last day of Band Camp which was the last Friday before my senior year in highchool officially started. I love having it. I think it is a good thing to get especially for someone like me who didn't have opportunity to go off to college. Besides the vast majority of people attend a public highschool and many are proud of where they came from and like to have their own personal memento of those years of teen angst. At my highschool they do teh class ring thing during sophomore year.

Oh I'll definitely get one for my girls when they graduate high school. It's like a little reward for their hard work, and a memento of where they came from that they can treasure for life. My mom and dad have theirs and are very proud of them.

I didn't graduate high school, so I never got one. But I would have expected it if I HAD graduated.

I did not have the money for either of my kids and neither did they. My oldest went without. My ex gave one to my youngest as a present this year, and he treasures it a great deal. (they get them Junior year in my kids school)

Growing up, I did not have the money for one in h.s.
and with college, I was more excited about my engagement ring w/ DH,
than a class ring.

Both my boys were gunho for class rings as sophmores in h.s.
and we bought them.

DS#1 is in college and got his class ring this year.
This is the last year that The Chief would be on the U of Illinois class rings,
so DS#1 got his a year early as a junior.

You are so right about Wallyworld being less expensive too.

*******
Can't believe the ring with the 'genuine gem stone' was
genuine imitation stone. What a rip off!

Now that is the good thing about being in a part of the world with walmart. We had no such choice here in the land of no wallyworlds. Just fill out the order form and pay big bucks.

Nice to have an alternative!

Instead of a class ring, my parents bought me a birthstone ring, and I still wear it...they figured I would wear it longer and it would be put in a drawer somewhere...and they were right, 10yrs later I still wear the ring.
In my opinion it still symbolizes that time of my life.
