Default Green Breast Milk

When I pumped tonight, my left breast produced green milk. It was a lot clearer than normal, but really, really green tinged. It was very unusual. I checked it out in different lights, thinking maybe it was the room I was in. Also, it's just my left breast. My right breast was relatively normal, but still a lot clearer looking than normal.

I tried to check it out on the internet, and it says that a few things could make greenish milk, such as green sports drinks/soda (I don't drink either at all), seaweed, large amounts of green vegetables, multivitamin or prenatal. Unfortuately, I stopped taking my prenatal long ago and I don't consume many green vegetables, except for salad, and even then it's not a huge amount at one time and I eat it on a regular basis and it has never made a difference before. Same with spinach and artichoke dip.

I am concerned also that it is only from one side. I feel like if it were something I was eating that it would happen in both breasts. Is this normal? I read that it is really nothing to be concerned about but I'm still curious as to why it happens!

Yep--you're radio active now. Ah. . .the power of breastfeeding. Okay, okay I'm just kidding. Are we talking green like it looks like you put food coloring in it or green like iridescent? Are you taking anything at all like antibiotics, probiotic yogurt, etc. Anything change in your diet?

The fact that it's one breast and not the other is not cause for concern per se. We are actually not all that symmetrical in function. . .and you said that your bm is much more clear on the other side. . .so in other words your whole body has changed in some way.

There has been no change in my diet, and no antibiotics or anything. (And no yogurt.) The green is really just on my left side, and it's not green like food coloring. Just green-tinged kind of. The other side isn't nearly as bad, but a little more clear than usual, almost like it is watered down! hehe! Internet says it's normal, but it's just so strange!

Maybe you're pistachio flavored now? Okay. . .so you can probably sense from my very serious tone here that you've really got nothing more than iridescently green tinged bm. Not that weird at all. However, if this is milk that you're pumping, I'd hold out for thincker stuff as this is just the foremilk.

Na....it's lime or mint flavored. *giggles*

Isn't it amazing how your body provides for your baby through BF!
Keep BF and pumping away.

I had that problem when I had way too much milk. I would just pump and dump the first part. And my right breast was always the worst. But I thought mine was more of a blue color.

Lime or mint. . .of course! Hey. . .maybe the right will start spewing red milk and then you can be just in time for Christmas! (okay, no more jokes I'm sorry)

Yes--this is a "too much milk" problem. Or at least too much foremilk. I have no explanation for why this happens when you have too much foremilk but it does. I think it has much more to do with the iridescence of the milk and how our eyeball perceives light.
