Default Have you ever done MLM?

Have you ever done multi-level marketing? Which one? What was your experience? Would you recommend it?

MLM is great, I've been doing it for over a year now. I love it because it is easy (doesn't take a rocket scientist, which is a good thing for me, haha), pays well, and I have so much flexible time with my family. I'm actually with a couple different programs right now. One is Shaklee, a 50 year old company that sells health products, etc. I love the compensation plan, love the products! I'm so glad I got started with them. Another program I'm with is PayItForward4Profits. If you have a MLM company (or if you don't, it will work as well), it will show you step by step how to promote that company, how to find leads, and the program will actually find leads for you, with its affiliate programs. A great way to make some side-money (or even a main stream of income) while promoting your main business.
Once again, I just love MLM.
Oh, and if anybody wants to check out either of those businesses to see what they're like, my 2 links are below.
If you've never done MLM, I highly suggest it. It is quite fun to meet new people and make some money!

MLM is great IF
You believe in the products & you are self motivated.
Start with the products. Those who are successful love what they do or are just really good sales people

I am in my seventh year with a good quality fashion jewelry company. (Not allowed to post its name here, sorry.) I started doing this because I wanted a business that would get me out with adults and required me to "dress up a bit" (i.e. not jeans and sweatshirt!). I also liked the jewelry, of course! Before kids (BK) I was always required to dress "business class" and I missed that. I also needed something that was flexible because we have three kids and they were never sick on the same day! The tipping point for me was the day I learned that the company was going to give each jeweler their own website.
This company is very good with training and ongoing support. It has a very generous markup and I never required to take product I do not want. The jewelry is beautiful and they are always coming out with new pieces.
Like everything you do, there have been ups and downs but all in all I would recommend it. I think it is important for people to get off the fence and just "do something". Once you start you will meet new people, get ideas, grow and surprise yourself! Some people block their own futures by thinking they have to have the "perfect answer". You are the one who will make it right for you.

Debbie is right, start with the product. That's exactly what happened to me. I tried a product that totally had an impact on my health and before I knew it so many people where asking me how I had so much energy and how I was losing so much weight and I was more than glad to share what I was doing. So the business kind of just fell into place. I'm truly blessed because in just a little over a year and a half (without changing much of what I was doing) I am now earning a six-figure income and just put in my notice at work.

I have been at this for a couple of years and have had modest success. If you don't mind bustin' your rump and working hard through the lean times then you can succeed at this.

I guess the hardest part is knowing what product to choose and what programs are not scams. When you don't have a lot of money to start with, you don't want to sink money into something that is just a scam. I don't mind hard work, but the only thing you have to check is the Better Business Bureau and sometimes they don't even have information on some of these companies.

Default It's a business like any other

MLM is really no different than any other business. There are good ones and there are ones you should avoid. Overall, most small businesses fail within two years of start up. Part of the reason is the high start up costs, plus lack of a real methodology like MCDonalds has. The problem with franchises is they require a large capital investment most people just do not have. That is the benefit of MLM. There are good ones you can start with no investment, though there are ongoing operational expenses like any business. Find one that is free, established, with a "franchise" type system, then stick with it. In a 10 year study, 97% of MLM's failed within 1 year. Interestingly enough, this same study showed that over 90 % made money if they persisted over 2 years. Anyway it is worth considering if you are looking for a way to build financial security. Security clearly no longer exists in the corporate world nor in Social "Security". All the best.

As stated previously, to succeed with an MLM business, you should (just a few of the most important characteristics):
- choose a product or service that will have a sufficient demand in the marketplace (you can't sell or market something nobody else is interested in)
- be your own best customer (how can you sell/refer something you have not used or do not like?)
- be self-motivated and focused (it can take some time to generate a decent income with MLM so you need to be prepared to work hard, you'll also need to encourage and support your team members)
- be a good networker (able to establish relationships/socialize online or offline, with friends or family, and strangers)
