Question Does relinquishing parental rights help with the state picking up the bill?

Adopted a Russian Boy now 10years old, approx. 7 years ago. Has RAD and much more. He needs residential treatment can not afford to pay. Does any one no about relinguishing parental rights and taking on the role of a foster parent? These foster parents get medicad and all kinds of money. I am in between a rock and a hard place. If this was a state adoption the state would be picking up the bill. Because this was an international adoption I am in a real mess. If this kid was on welfare the state again would be picking up the bill.

I have no idea. I thought all adoptions were covered under Medicaid.

Have you talked with a social worker? They usually have information on what is available.

Welcome to the board!

Cannot tell you anything about this.

As Missy suggests, maybe a social worker could help you.

Have you applied for Medicaid/Public Aid for your son?
It definitely sounds like he needs help.

Do you love him?

Firstly...I have a child that is "special needs" though I never refer to him like that. Your child is a citizen therefor is entitled to the same things as any child born in the U.s has. I agree with trying to get Medicaid/Public Aid for your son. Its amazing the amount of help you can get. I have to fight with my son's school at times in order to get him the help he needs...I understand it is difficult but if you love your son it will be worth it
