Ok, I do not know if I am doing this right but I will give it a try. I am the mom of a 7 year old girl. She has a problem with encoporesis (sp); basically that means that she poops her pants. It is bad enough that she poops her pants at home, she started having accidents at school last year and often she denies the problem and refuses to change her cloths or otherwise deal with the issue, I am afraid she is going to lose friends and be known as "Stinky girl" soon. She had been potty trained for 3-4 years when the problem started, so it is not like she is not potty trained. I have done some research on this problem and everything I read says that kids her age who poop their pants are constipated, well that should not be a problem for THIS long, (she has had the problem for over a year!); also the poop usually seems to be soft not hard or mixure of hard and diarrhea like I would expect if constipated. I have seen research that sometimes the problem is exacerbated by loss of feeling in the area when it happens over a period of time. Also, I have a nephew who had the problem for several years so I figured that heridity had something to do with it. I have also wondered if food allergies or sensitivities could cause or exacerbate her problem, and I have seen nothing suggesting that is true. Then I had a brain storm yesterday. I noticed that she had several accidents after having ice cream (she had ice cream twice as dessert at lunch and as a snack later). Has anyone heard of having a problem with encoporesis and/or a problem similar to this with ice cream and does the problem also extend to milk? I know I should take her to the dr but I am broke beyond broke, and I do not want to spend $20, I do not have, so the dr can tell me that she needs to be on a bowel retraining regimine and to take a laxative daily. I can figure that out at home for free but it is not getting better. HELP!!!
