Default Hereditary low blood pressure

My Mom, grandmother and myslf all have low blood pressure. Means that if you get out of bed too fast, everything goes black, then white , then real again. It's great fun.At least I have a lower than average risk of certain cardiovascular diseases. And I can save on alcohol too! Who needs the spins when you can do it to yourself just by standing up! Combine this with motion sickness and the world can be a very unstable place at times!

My mom has low blood pressure, and although my blood pressure always reads in the normal range, I do sparatically have episodes like you described. When I was in labor with my last baby, my blood pressure dropped dramatically...it was something like 60 something over 20 something. They had to give me a shot of ephedrine and it still only brought it up a little bit, but high enough it wasn't dangerous anymore....good times.

The nurses always take my blood pressure twice because they think they got a bad reading the first time because it's so low. I have to be careful, too, not to stand up too quick. My mom had abnormally low blood pressure, but my dad has had high blood pressure all his life. Luckily, my kids are also on the low end.

Thats exactly what happened to me last time i went ot the GP's. I was having head spins, actually thought i was dehydrated so i kept drinking masses of H2O. I'd never had a problem before, it just crept up on me

Hi All,

My wife has low blood pressure and has dizzy spells now and again. She's been having this since she was a teenager. She's now 34 and not on any medication.

I'd like to know from the others out there if this is something she's got to live with or can she take medication for it. From what I've been reading, controling her diet is the best thing she can do.

I'd appreciate some feedback or links to more information.
Thanks.

There really isn't treatment for low blood pressure, other than eating right. I experienced the same when I was younger...I don't know if my weight gain made my bp go up, but now it's right in the normal range.

Besides the dizzy spells and possibility of fainting, the only other real side effect is tiredness. I don't miss that at all.
