Default Hi Adoption Community

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Kathy, and I'm a adoptive parent to my 15 month old son, Connor. Starting, hopefully on Monday, I will be contributing to an blog on adoption with another adoptive parent. I believe she has posted on this forum as well.
Just to give some background information about myself and my family. When we were adopting my son, Connor, we went through a domestic adoption agency. American Adoptions. Our adoption process was an amazing experience for my husband and I. We became very close with Connor's birthmother and still have contact with her. In truth we were very lucky that everything went as well for as it did for us. I know many other families experience challenges throughout their adoption process.
Before Connor was born, I worked for 8 years in New York City at a domestic violence shelter. Due to the long commute and my desire to stay home with my son, I took a year and half off from working. Once I decided to start working again, I contacted American Adoptions inquiring about employment. A couple months later I was hired to complete Home studies. I also conduct adoption seminars for prospective adoptive couples locally.
I very excited about this opportunity to be a part of the Families.com community and being able to blog about adoption. My knowledge on adoption is primarily in domestic and agency adoption. I will be sharing the blog with another adoptive parent with experience and knowledge in special needs and foster care adoption. I think between the two of use we should have a very comprehensive blog and hopefully will be able to help others out and answers any questions that you have.
If anyone has topics of interest that you would like covered in this blog, please reply to this thread.
I invite everyone to share in the Families.com Adoption blog beginning next week.

Hi Kathy, I am new here as well. I know the woman you are refering to. Her name is Anna. I am glad families.com has chosen two different types of adoptive parents (experience wise) to blog. Anna, another lady and I run a group called Oregon Adoptive Parents Network in Oregon (information can be found on www.orparc.org or www.happymomanna.com) . Congratulations on the adoption of your son Connor. I have 2 boys by adoption currently 4 and 2. They were placed at 13 mo. and 5 mo. though our state's system, our oldest being a straight adoption and our youngest being a foster to adopt.
I look forward to reading both yours and Anna's blogs.

Kathy and I have been getting our Blogs going and I have been enjoying it. I do have to say it has been difficult during the holidays but thankfully we are working with a Family centered group of people.
