Some of the things my son deals with that are related to his SID are his need for jumping on different things. Everywhere we go he has to jump on everything. At friends houses he go through the entire house and jumps on things and finds things to jump off of...including people if they are sitting on the floor. My son literally jumps up and down more than half his day. If he can't jump then he finds other ways to get that input.
My sons SID has a lot to do with his vision. Bright lights, like flashing lights, easily distract him and he becomes deaf when looking at them. That could be related to the autism though.
He still eats everything, including non-food stuff. Everything still goes in his mouth like a baby does. He smears food all over his body, especially pudding, mashed potato's. He has never used utensils and will take a fit when pushed to do so. I think that may have to do with the autism though. He likes to feel his food before eating it.
This is so hard to explain. There are so many factors to SID and all kids are different. I would go to your State Regional Center and ask to see a Occupational Therapist for an evaluation. In the beginning, I had to keep asking my son's OT what the heck this SID was all about. The best explanation he gave me was, what feels weird or even hurts us, feel good to them.
I hope this helps! Please keep us updated and good luck!
