Unhappy Ike really made a mess of things here...

I'm back online now. Sat morning around 3am Ike moved over our house. I woke up to the wind and rain. Then our power went out and stayed out for 3 days. We're back up now. We were listening to the radio for a while then went to my parents' house to stay. They had a generator to hook up a fan and a fridge... my milk was saved! We were able to hook up a TV to rabbit ears and saw how bad it really was. Galveston, Gilchrist, Bolivar, and Crystal Beach look like a war zone. So many houses GONE! Like they had never even been there. We rented a beach house several times in Crystal Beach and I'm afraid it is gone. It was a friend of our's only source of income. She rented it. I'm waiting for Google Earth to catch up so I can see if it is still there.
Gas is scarce, groceries are scarce. It is just an whole different world now.
Man this storm really tore things up. So many people lost everything.. homes... and work too! My uncle's house got 6ft of water in it. It is ruined. All that he and his girlfriend had is gone. What's completely horrible is that the death toll is now up to 48 here. And several people are still missing.
If you could please pray for these people. We are blessed that we have what we have, but we need to help these people get back on their feet.

I saw pics of Crystal Beach on CNN yesterday, amazing what Mother Nature can take out.
I am glad that you and your milk are all safe.
Everyone affected by Ike will be in my prayers.

So glad that you are OK. Ike really did a number on that area. I hope that everyone that is still missing is found and they are OK.

Glad that you and your parents are safe and wondered about you. Good that your home only lost power and nothing else.

Some of those coastal communities look like someone took a giant razor and just cut them off. That is what those waves will do.

Google earth takes a while to catch up sometimes, so you may not see the house on Crystal Beach until you know what happened anyway. Hope it stood.

good you hear your family is safe. those storms are so scary and big. one of my parent's employee's got 3 feet of water in their house and they are all the way in new iberia, louisiana. (4 hours away from houston!)

texas has always been so good to us (louisiana) for all of our hurricanes. i know we still have people without power from gustav, but i hope we send some help your way...

good luck with everything!

(((HUGS))) I'm sure it's absolutely horrifying to be there in the midst of it.

Where are you from? I'm up here in Tyler, so we got quite a bit of wind. Some of our area is still without power, but the power in my apartment only flickered. A huge tree fell on a house not far from me, though. It was so weird to see.
