Default My weight gain

Need some opinions on how to handle this situation: Went to parents for Easter dinner with my husband and two kids. One of thier guests (a friend) mumbled under thier breath to another about my weight gain. My daughter and niece (11 & 12 yrs. old) overheard this and of course told me. I am one year out of breast cancer and have had enough of everyone's comments. Question: should I let my parents know that their guest spoke poorly about me? I have no relationship with this person but my parents do. Also, why do people think they can comment on anything they want to? Why do people feel justified passing judgement on others either to their face or behind thier back? Any thoughts would be welcome. Happy Easter!
