New York City
Covenant LEAH is hosting a seminar at 4pm on July 21st given by yours truly on how to comply with New York State regulations. Packages will be passed out that include samples of all the paperwork you need to submit, and we'll go over how to keep your records so you can easily comply with regs. This is a MUST ATTEND if you are new to homeschooling in New York State.

Registration is required so you can PM me or you can e-mail me at valoried@families.com to register and get information (like the address and such!)

There is one here in my area on April 25-26th. I have pretty much decided on my next years curriculum, that is, I know what I want to buy but still need to place the orders. I want to go to see what it is all about. I have not been to one previously and I am curious, plus I know a few other homeschoolers who are planning to attend. But...I am also concerned because I know I will see a lot of products I have not heard of or researched and I don't want to be tempted to re think my plan because I think I have a good plan in place.

Is there any benefit to going, other than to see what else is out there? Should I just skip it since I have already researched and chosen curriculum for next year? What does anyone think?

Deedee please place a listing in the forum for the dates and location so other homeschoolers would know.

I haven't gone to a curriculum fair in a couple of years but I am thinking of going for no other reason that to gather information for this blog and to have a day to myself.

Going to the fair can help you meet homeschooler you would not have met otherwise and to learn more about homeschooling in general through the seminars and such. But if you hate large crowds (like me), you can always learn by reading books!

Can I just post a link to the info?
http://www.midwesthomeschoolers.org/conferences.htm

It is at the KCI Expo Center out by the airport.
KCI Expo Center
11730 North Ambassador Drive
Kansas City, Mo. 64153

They are suppose to have over 150 vendors with booths showcasing their curriculum products. It is $15 dollars per adult for access to the vendor booths only, children of all ages are free in this area.

And they also have a conference, the cost is $45.00 for adults and children 13 and over (children 13 and over go to a teen conference, and parents go to their adult conference). They are offering a children's program which I think costs $30.00 for children under 13. I am not entirely certain mainly because I don't intend to take my children if I decide to attend ! Like you, Andrea, I feel I need a day to myself. I usually manage to arrange one every 3-4 years, !

The workshops are Friday April 25th 2008 from 9:00 until 5:00.
The vendor only fair will be available on Friday from 12:00- 6:00 and again on Saturday April 26th 2008 from 8:00 until 5:00.

Anyhow, all of the info is posted at the link above. The website says it is free, but if you read further you will find that that only applies to members of the Midwest Parent Educators group. I am not a member, so I would have to pay the required price whether I attended the vendor only fair or the full conference.

Default Illinois Christian Home Educators state convention on June 5-7

I am posting this for Laurie Bluedorn:

Dear Illinois Homeschooling Families,

We'll be running a few contests over the next couple of weeks -- all in anticipation of the Illinois Christian Home Educators state convention on June 5-7 and to introduce the new ICHE blog. We’ll also be running several contests during the convention, so check the blog throughout the convention weekend.

Here's Contest #1

To enter this contest, leave a comment here on the blog telling us why you like homeschooling in Illinois. We’ll pick a winner later today.

The winner gets a copy of Ginger Plowman’s No More Whining: Three Easy Steps to Whine-Free Living. Ginger will be one to the speakers at the convention.

Happy springtime to you and your family.

Laurie Bluedorn
