Homeschooling Families in Houston, TX Area
There is currently a pilot program through K12 being offered to homeschooling families in the Houston area. So far, they're having a hard time spreading the word to those who might be interested. Below is the latest email I received from them. Anyone interested should contact them through www.txva.org.
Deanne
All,
Please let me introduce myself. My name is Janet Aikele and I am with K12. I have met many of you to whom this email is being sent but for those of you who have not attended an info session in which I have been involved, I wish to introduce myself to you through email. Please forgive the informal manner I am using but this email is being sent this way due to the very tight timeline currently being faced by those who are trying to organize and launch the Texas Virtual Academy.
Everyone on this distribution list has demonstrated an interest in the program's success, hence the reason for reaching out to you. On December 10th from 9:00-11:00 AM, the academy will host a breakfast for families who may have an interest in this schooling option. The event will be held at a Hampton Inn in Katy, TX (all precise information is listed below). It is the goal of the academy to inform new families and to possibly generate sufficient interest to the allowable number for enrollment for this current school year so that we can demonstrate to the sponsoring entity that this is a desired coice for families in your area.
Very soon the program's Head of School, Nancy Trunk, will send out an email detailing a contest for your family to participate in for this event. The goal is to encourage each family who has shown an interest in the academy to attend this breakfast and to bring at least one family along as well. A lovely breakfast will be served and then activities for younger children will be held in an adjoining room so that parents and older students can attend an info session to learn about the program. In all, it is anticipated that this event will require about a two-hour time slot and then families will be free to enjoy holiday shopping or other activities together.
If you would help us to get the word out about the program it will help everyone involved in the following ways:
1. It will demonstrate to all who are reviewing the program that there is indeed, an interest in this schooling option in your state and in your area.
2. It will help to develop a group near your family so that teachers and other services can be brought closer to your proximity.
3. It will assist everyone to successfully launch a program with the allowable number of enrollees for this immediate school year and will offer more time in which to accrue the required learning time.
4. If TXVA can enroll the allowable 200 students into this "Seed Pilot Program" it will help to solidify this option for future years.
Anything you can begin to do to help us to get the word out would be very much appreciated. You will be receiving word very soon from either my email or that of Nancy Trunk, Head of School, regarding this big event. Please share the informaiton widely and join us in our contest to recruit families for this awesome schooling option!
