Default Hot marathon in Quebec City

I ran the Quebec City marathon on Sunday. Man, was it ever hot at the end. Sadly, one man passed away, only 3km from the finish. Still, it was a nice run and a beautiful city to do a marathon in.

I have never run in such extreme heat before, at least not that long of a race. It was my 6th marathon, and by far the hardest ending of any race I've done. Scorching heat and no wind for the last 12 km... I hope I never have to run in such heat again.

The locals said the weather had been rainy and miserable most of the summer, but now they were happy the heat showed up. Go figure! I would have picked the rain before the sun for the race - of course! Running long in extreme heat is not only hard, it can be dangerous. It's very hard to get enough fluids.

Yes it was sad. This was the 2nd race I've done this year where a person passed away. Kinda scary, but in both cases it was due to extreme heat.

How long a marathon was it?

Are there spotters along the way to see if someone is in distress?

All marathons are 42.2 kilometers, or 26 miles.
There are waterstations every 4 kilometers and they will of course help runners in trouble. On hot days like this one, there would also be extra medical staff placed along the course.
