Default How do I handle an inconsiderate neighbor?

The family on the right of us are nice people. Their son plays with my daughter occasionally, and they are friendly. The husband seems kind of pushy...but oh well.
Here's the dilema. Every single Saturday morning at 7:45 AM...he gets out in his yard and begins mowing. Then he fires up the GAS weed-eater and then the GAS blower. I can hear him right now as I type this.
Our homes are so close together, and my two daughter's rooms are on that end of the house. Last night my 2 year old was sick....so long story short I was in her room this morning at 7:45 when he began his ritual. UGH!
I am so mad right now. I feel like this is so inconsiderate. He does this EVERY Saturday. Would it kill him to wait till at least 8:30? He is home all day anyway.
Need advice on how to handle this without freaking him out!

How about meeting him in the yard next week with some donuts/ muffins/ whatever and asking him to enjoy the morning a little longer and could he wait till 8:30?

That's a possiblity, I guess. I know he has every right to do what he wants, when he wants because it's his lawn. But c'mon...7:45 every Saturday?
Oh my gosh...irritating! I am going to try and request that he put it off till later. Maybe bringing him muffins might help. I am not out to offend him...but I feel offended.
Thanks for your advice!

I would check out your city's noise ordinance laws. Sometimes the police will enforce quiet during certain hours. They have in our, even fining our noisy neighbors a significant amount, which goes up with each additional violation.

I would also try making friends with the family and bring baked goods. Mention that you'd like peace and quiet during certain hours. It couldn't hurt to ask. If that doesn't work, I'd call the police.

Don't let it make you crazy though!

I don't think he could be offended if you, in the nicest way possible, just said that you would like to sleep in a little later Saturdays...is there any way he could indulge you and delay his mowing just a bit? Kind of like the old it's not you, it's me thing. If that doesn't work, check out the noise ordinances and be matter-of-fact, but still nice. If that doesn't work, he's a jerk, so call the cops if they can enforce the ordinance, or maybe a good set of earplugs?

The man's a lunatic. I'd go out there, take his weed whacker off him, and beat him with it.

My chores start earlier than that, but they're quiet and I don't have any neighbours to wake up. He's inconsiderate. Don't feel badly about asking him to be quiet until a little later, especially on behalf of your kids, and good luck!

I hope your Saturdays are more peaceful from now on. That would drive me nuts.

I like visiting him with the muffins or donuts and asking him to wait until 8:30 AM to start mowing. That seems a reasonable hour.

DH has also wanted to mow early, and I've had to remind him that probably the neighbors were sleeping too. Their Sat AM newspapers were still in the boxes when I went to get ours.

So sorry that your little one was ill last night!
