I have been tracing my paternal side of my family for 2 years i have gone back as far as the 1500s, Nothing exciting found other than my elderly father now has a reason why his father was disowned by the family. My maternal side of the tree goes back as far as my mums grandad, but thats on my mums, mothers side, cant do her dads side as i dont even know her dads name. Cant ask my mum as she died in 2004. I did ask her sisters and brothers but they know as much as my mum did when she was alive. I'm still carrying on my search though as i now have a few relatives of my dads, that he aint seen since he was about 7, (hes now 79) in touch with me

My nan, before she died last year, was able to trace her family back to the 1620's, but my mums side im not too sure on.
My fiance has been able to trace his back to roughly the same period as well, and he found out where his double-barreled surname came from. It was all due to inheritence where an ancestor added the last part to his surname (something to do with a grandmother i think) to get said inheritence. It was alot of money back then, and their family had mansions and manors all over the UK and Europe. Unfortunately, about 3 generations later, the last man to recieve the inheritence died unmarried and childless, so the properties and cash went to the state. Just typical that the state didnt even look for relatives, as he had a sister who left the country and its her line my finaces family comes from.
I can only hope i can get as much info about my family history.

We have a family reunion coming up and we are meeting in Salt Lake City to go to the temple and visit the sites. I'd love to go see the storage facility for the records.

I read this in the news.

"SALT LAKE CITY 28 April 2010 A massive excavation carved 700 feet into a solid granite mountain near Salt Lake City houses millions of feet of microfilm — all historical documents The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been keeping since 1938. The records are being digitized and published through FamilySearch, a genealogical resource provided free to the public.

The Granite Mountain Records Vault is the official storage unit for 2.4 million rolls of microfilm containing approximately 3.5 billion images. The information links to billions of people in over 100 countries and is recorded in 170 languages."

Do they offer tours?
what do you think? sherrill graff istmpnv@aol.com

Well I can't trace my family back to Bible time (That's incredible!), but some of my ancestors fought in the American Revolutionary war, so I can trace the lineage to about the mid 1700s.
