How Much Is Your Electric Bill This Month?
Has anybody noticed an increase, a sharp increase in their electric bill this month?
We have a gas dryer, waterheater, and furnace.
The rest is electric.
When we have the central air on in the summer time,
the electric bill tops was $200-$300.00,
but usually very reasonable about $1xx.00.
This past month, with no air conditioning, maybe just a little furnace on,
and 2 boys home from school for spring break........over $500.00!!!
Let me repeat this ....over $500.00.
I do not think we will start the central air at home this summer,
if it is over $500.00 with just regular electric.
What about you?

Ours is $324 this month, it usually runs around $250 or so but it has been pretty hot already.

Wow $500? I'd be calling them & checking to see if it were a billing error. I'd also shut down my main breaker, and each breaker switch, turning them on one-by-one. As you flip one back on, check the meter & watch the dial. If you flip one on that makes the dial spin like mad, you know you have something on the circuit drawing too much electricity, and you can unplug it or get rid of it if it's an appliance.
I think it would be interesting to see where everyone lives when comparing electric bills. Mine varies between 100-150. I live in upstate NY, and we have fuel oil heat, so the electric is pretty much the lights & appliances. My hot water is heated by the furnace (oil) so that helps keep the electric down.
I still think our bill is really high. Others in my town pay as much as me, maybe a little more and they have gas heat which comes from the same electric company (NYSEG).
