Default How often between feedings?

I know when she was born they said to feed her every 2-3 hrs. We always did on demand unless she started going around 4 hrs w/o eating (which she had only done once or twice) but now she doesn't seem to want to eat at all. Today I fed her around 2:30/3:00ish and took her to work w/me. She took a few ounces from a bottle while I was at work around 4:30/5:00 and when I called DH later that night to see how things were he said she had only eaten the rest of that bottle (so maybe 3 oz). This was at 9:00. I think she woke up and had an ounce or two more but it's just not like her. Usually she's wolfing down the milk and begging for more a few hrs later reguardless of if it's from me or from a bottle. She did the "not wanting to eat" thing the other night too for DH. At what age do they start to spread out their meals? And maybe this is a sign she's ready to start solids?? We're going to talk to her Dr. next Wednesday about solids. Any thoughts?

Libby went through a not hungry stage about a month ago. She's back full force now! She needs a certain amount of milk per day so if you introduce solids she may drop her milk intake even further. If your supply drops it with be hard to build back up as your back working. I'm trying to wait till the 6 month mark to start solids (World Health Organisation reccommendations) although I have given libby the odd spoonful of baby rice on the mega hungry days, but its not everyday.

Sometimes teething can put them of eating.

I definitely would not start solids this early. I know people do it and their kids are fine but for the first year of life breastmilk is the best thing for baby and solid food comes second. She's also super young. A better indication of her being ready to start solids is that she actually shows an interest in something on your plate. At this point all you could give her is rice cereal and frankly--it's empty calories. In addition mollymae is right. . .giving her solids will have the effect of decreasing your supplie and that's not what you want (I don't think.) You should do absolutely nothing. Healthy babies don't starve themselves and she'll likely pick up again. Teething will have this affect as will illness if she seems to not be feeling that great. For my kids lack of appetite and sleeping more was always a sign of a cold around the corner. In any case, good luck!

Well she has a BAD cold now so maybe that's it. Cough, runny nose, watery eyes. I wanted to wait until 6 mo to start solids, so thanks for the tips on that ( and we're planning on starting with avocado and banana not rice cereal ) Definatley dont' want to drop my supply so ... thanks!! Hopefully she gets out of the phase soon.

Hi there. Seems a little early for solid foods. How many wet diapers is she producing a day? Is her soft spot on top of her head dinted in a bit (sign of needing more fluids). Having a cold would certainly reduce her appetite.
Start pumping and freezing your milk in the milk bags from baby bottles. Perhaps store only a few ounces in each, to avoid waste at time of use. These keeps your production up. That way, when her appetite picks up, you will be ready. Also, you'll have some on hand if you get sick or want to be away for a few hours. (Sounds rather clinical, but it worked for me.)

Liz

We always start with banana and avocado too! Avocados are a super great food to start with bc they're high in calories and also high in nutrients.

I think I might try Libby on avocados, I can't stand them myself. We normally leave bananas till they are a bit older as they tend to make my kids constipated.
