Default How old were you when you had your first child?

How old were you when you had your first child? (Or do you want to be when you have your first child)? Why did you have your child at that age (if any reason at all)? How many children do you have/want to have? My husband and I want to have a big family so I don't want to start having children when I'm too old . . . I was curious what others experiences are!

27. The reason being, is that it took me that long to be in an established relationship where we both felt ready.

I was 29 when our first baby was born. We had been trying since I was 23, but had fertility issues. In retrospect, I'm glad it took as long as it did. I think that for me, it was better that I was a little older. We had been married for 6 1/2 years and were more stable in our relationship by the time the babies came.

I have two children, and it's all I want to physically give birth to. They are now 11 and 8. I was lucky and I have a boy and a girl. I was 11 days shy of my 21st birthday with my son. I didn't exactly "choose" to have him at that age, it was just the best "oops" that's ever happened to me I wouldn't have given him up for the world.

My daughter was born a few years later when I was not quite 26.

I did decide when I was much younger that I wanted children when I was still young, but as I said 21 was not exactly when I planned for. In retrospect, I am thankful I had them when I did because as I'm getting older, my patience with little children is thinning out.

I am dating someone who has three children ages 6, 9 and 11 so I guess if we ever were to marry I'd have 5 kids, but at least this old body didn't have to have all five kids! lol

I was 22 when my first sone was born who is now 8! 26 when my second son was born who is now 3 and 28 when my daughter was bor who is now 1! I would love to have one more, but not for a few years! I want to enjoy having my little girl and enjoy my boys growing up a little more! I would like to have another child by the time I am 34-35. But having four children is the most that I would like to have! The three that I have right now are a handful, but I wouldn't change it or them for the world. They are my world

I was 24 but we'd been trying since I was about 20 or 21. I too am glad it took longer to give me some time to grow up a few more years.

i was over thirty, and so was my wife. We'd been married about five years when we decided we were ready. We have two. We're planning on stopping at two, though our psychic friends hear cries of another one...

C'mon Lisa! Just do it!
My husband and I weren't married quite a year when I got pregnant the first time. I was 26. Unfortunately we lost that baby and had a couple of hard years, dealing with repeated miscarriages. I was almost 29 when my oldest daughter was born. I was anxious to get started because I wanted lots of children. Now we have two birth children, one adopted and another one who will hopefully be adopted soon. Right now my hands are very full but I hope that someday my husband and I will feel energetic enough to adopt one or two more. We'll see.

I got married at the age of 18 and two years later (age 20) we had our son--who we tried to conceive and wanted. 14 months later I had my daughter, and my tubes tied.

For my 40th Birthday we celebrated with Makala (then 5) and Jeremiah (then 1) joining our family by adoption.

Right now I have a grad student, university student, a second grader and a preschooler!
