My husband and I met through Yahoo Personals. We talked online for about a month before releasing phone numbers and then another 2 weeks before actually meeting.
We chatted everynight after we got home from work. We both had webcams so we could actually see each other... so no surprises when we met in person.
Our online time wasn't really romantic. It was more like getting to know eachother, becoming friends, etc.

For me it was a great experience. We have been married now for 5 years and have a son. I had talked to another guy online, we connected some, but what got me was the fact that he hated his job and that was almost all he would talk about. Got on my nerves. But my husband and I talked about everything under the moon.
Good luck.

Well the times I met anyone through a dating site were far from romantic. Much as described above about getting to know each other but then they were usually followed by 1 meeting for coffee or a short public visit that would quickly result in both parties discovering they're not interested in each other. When I finally did connect with someone online it was someone I knew in the past and had reconnected with. Sparks flew but they continued to be a good friend as well. The first few visits were tense and on the 3rd there were happy romantic butterflies in both our tummies. Then it was a matter of how soon can we get this party started, who's going to move and leave their job and friends to risk pursuing this? But that all became obvious and worked itself out.. and now I'm still in the best relationship of my life.

My husband and I met on line. We emailed and then talked on the phone but did not know what one another looked like. The first time we went out, we met at a club frequented by the over 40 crowd. He was already inside talking to friends and happened to be walking by near the door as I was going inside. We were about 15 ft apart when we saw each other and when our eyes met we fell in love. We had a great time and talked until 5:30 am. We got married 6 months later and though we have had some tough times, we are more in love each day and are so glad we we met.
