How to....
Keep Nevy from breaking her head open???
Nevy "wont" crawl! She can do it she just doesn't want to. I've seen her go backwards and I've seen her take a few crawls forward but she drops back on the floor and gives you a smile like "Ha ha I wont do it!". So her new skill in furniture walking/pulling! She loves our TV stand (very large and solid wood so tipping in not my worry)but I'm scared to death this child is going to smack her head open on it! If you try to help her.... she screams! If you try to re-direct to something softer...she screams! If you try to put padding on it....she pulls it off! I dont know what to do! Since she wont use crawling as her way to get around this is the only way she can get to things! I'm happy she is finally becoming independent but I'm scared she is going to really hurt herself! If you try to support her or hold onto her she screams at you and pushes your hands away. I cant tell you how many times I get to her just before she's about to smack her head! I dont know what to do with her! Any help??? Any tips?? I know this will only last for a short time at least until she can walk without the support but how do I protect her?? It seems like the last few weeks this kid has been bumping her head on something like 3-4 times a day! Never really hard but enough to sometimes cause a little reddness or bruise. I am about to buy her a helmet!

Bumps and bruises are just her sign of growing up haha! I know the feeling though, when Vinnie first started that I would constantly walk behind him, but I had to stay a good distance, or he would yell... He bumped his head once walking along our bookcase, and after that, he was okay when I moved him. I would just say, "You're going to bump your head again and get another boo boo!" and he would sit right down! I guess some kids just have to learn by trial and error lol

If she hits her head a few times, she will realise it's a bad idea and stop hopefully.

I dont mind the little bumps that make her learn but I do mind her smacking her head really hard and us needing to go to the ER. So how do I allow her freedom without serious injury? I bought furniture bumper pads but she just pulls them right off!

i don't think there's really a whole bunch you can do. if she's anything like izzy, she's going to do what she wants whether you like it or not. i've seen her do some matrix-like gravity-defying moves.

Oh gosh I think this is a very common thing. Moms have been worrying for centuries about their kids getting injured! I *feel* like I'VE been worrying for centuries (grey hairs, yet?).
Just wait til the first time she gets injured and draws blood! Alyssa fell and bumped her lip, which caused her tooth to cut the inside of her lip a little bit. When I saw that blood I thought I was going to DIE of a heart attack! Thankfully my mom was here to assess the situation so I didn't run off to the hospital in a frenzy. It was such a little bit of blood, but to me it looked like a gallon!
*sigh* It just never ends.
Hmmm...I realize this may not have been too helpful...
But hang in there. She will learn her balance quicker than you think, and the falls will be fewer!

I don't really think that there is much you can do. She will learn.
It sounds like you have done a great job of keeping her in one piece so far! I know it is hard to have to always try to stop them from bashing in their own heads, but there really isn't anything you van do.
Tiffany is that stubborn too! She won't let you help her with anything!!
Ever. We have all tile floor, throughout the whole house. So that makes me really nervous. She slammed her head hard, falling backwards a few times. Now when she falls back she kinda rolls and keeps her head tucked so it doesn't slam down. So they do learn......I think it is more painful for us watching it happen. The other day we were in the pool and she was walking around the outside of it. And she fell in. She never cried, and now when she walks around the edge she is extra carefull about where she puts her feet.
Hang in there Nevy will be fine!

if she is extreme in this behavour you can get little padded tie on hats to pad her, I had one for my 3rd child, he was 4 ever bumping his head, however you will find she will grow out of it pretty fast , especiallyif she does hurt herself. what she is doing is pretty normal, HUGS honey and welcome to the fun stage, not knowing where she is all the time

for corners you can cut open a tennis ball and stick it on there....they kinda look fun, and hard to pull off if u do it the right way (Inever did so i dont know what the actual "right" way would be sry!)
I agree with everyone else....i remember when Jaecy started standing/creeping...she had also just switched to a juice cup and was standing drinking it...one second she was leaning her weight on the table and the next second she was falling ace first into the ground with her juice cup in her hands...not smart enough to let go of the juice she smashed her face on the cup (which was on the floor at that point, still in her hands!) Turned into a HORRIBLE bloody nose...nothing worse then seeing that much blood come out of a kid for the first time...needless to say she was walking on her own at 10 months and doesnt really carry the cup around

We used bubble wrap taped to corners with my nephew- he, too, was a fan of ripping the store bought safety pads off, too. He still managed to get a few bumps and bruises.
The helmet sounds like a fab idea! lol
