Default How to cook steak?

Got a couple of steaks. One problem. Have NO CLUE how to cook steak, how to season steak, how much to plan for a person, etc.
Have two Petite Sirloins, one pound and one and a half pound. How much for a person? How to season? How to cook? Please help! I'm such a sorry excuse for a wife and mother it's pathetic . . . (why do we not have a wryly resigned smiley? .)

Also be sure to slice a bit into the edges before broiling to keep it from curling up on you if its a large flat steak. Beware of too much salt or it may get a bit tough. Let us know how it turns out!

Okay, so am I frying, broiling, grilling on George Foreman?
Which is best/most tender/least likely to turn into a charcoal/smoke-filled mess of humiliation for Leggs?

*Pathetic whimper* I think I'm feeling extra whiney and helpless today because sleep deprivation is making me see everything as fuzzy and kind of non-real, so I appreciate you guys helping me stagger through.

In fact, you both get halos for your angelichood.

I always like the broiler for indoor steaking.
Do I flip it ever or just let it broil?

Oh you are not! I"m glad you posted as it reminded me I have two steaks in the fridge. DH usually grills them out for us - so I'm not much help. Anyone pound the steaks before cooking them to make them tender? Not sure if you are supposed to or not, but it does work off frustrations.

And how far from the heat source? And how hot? And do I cut the steak into two servings before or after I cook it?

Props understood hun I typically broil mine which is hot but quick. Makes it nice and brown on the outside yet leaves it pink inside which is the only way I will eat a steak. 2 to 4 inches from the heat source depending on results desired. 2 inches is fast an cooks harder and 4 is less fast. I usually go for 4" myself.

High heat

Cut it after it's cooked, or it will turn into a little piece of juiceless leather.

Okay, so let me see if I get this:
Take my one pound steak out of fridge. See if it's thawed. If not, thaw in microwave. (I THINK I can at least do that.)
Then put in A.1. Sauce to marinate (and then come back to DAGG and question Mrs. Pinecone more closely about "all these [elusive] free marinades" ).
Turn oven to bold indicates a question: 350? degree heat
Broil four to six inches from source for five minutes, then flip and do another five minutes for the other side? Is that right?
Take out, cut, serve, and when DH praises my cooking lap up all the glory for myself . . . er, I mean, humbly give credit where credit is due, to the wondrous ladies of DAGG . . . .

Oh! Now, see, I'm an idiot! When you said broiler I was thinking broiler PAN that you put in the oven. I don't actually have a broiler. I have a broiling PAN (can I use that?) and a George Foreman grill which has only one heat setting: on. .

If I were doing a broiler pan what temp would it be?
