No, this is not how you teach your baby to read. This is how to teach your verbal baby to put on a show for cookies.

This is how you teach your baby to read.

Now for future reference, let me teach you how to write on a forum.

You register and you introduce yourself. You tell us a bit about your self.

You do NOT crapflood the forum (including the breastfeeding area) with the same post over and over about how to teach a baby to read using flash cards which have NOTHING to do with actual parenting - or breastfeeding.

So glad your baby loves performing. Hope she learns to love reading. Not once in that video did I see you read her a story, or her ask for a book or a story or recite a rhyme.

Perform a trick, get a cookie. Just brilliant.

Goodbye.

tha's a little harsh she obviously knows how to read, because at the end of the day all reading is repetition, and memorizing. If she came on the forum with her daughter reading a book on her own would you be saying the same thing i think that is fantastic and even if she is not reading a book at least she is familiar with words.

He/she crapflooded the forum and is a spammer. The kid is cute, but the behavior of the spammer on this forum - and the technique for "teaching" the baby to "read" - is inappropriate.

I normally delete links from spammers, but I left this up. Its not reading. All reading is not memorization, it is process. And this child is just doing rote performance, not process. Its also of interest to our homeschoolers, who deal with the criticism that they're not really teaching - because they are not doing this sort of thing.

I dealt with this mentality in directing a preschool and in daycare. These flashcard things are a gimmick, and an expensive one. Meantime, the people are not doing the age appropriate things with the baby which result in lifelong reading.

The educational research on these methods does not justify this nonsense. Spammers and eduflam artists love to decry the research, saying that schools and teachers are trying to dummy down the kids.

This one had something to sell, because s/he was crapflooding, sticking this post in multiple inappropriate places in our forum. So s/he didn't get a chance.
