Default Hughes Syndrome

I was just diagnosed with Antiphospholipid Syndrome -- commonly known as Hughes Syndrome. Does anyone have this and if they do had a successful pregnancy without giving themselves the heperin shot every day? My doctor told me to just try taking a baby asprin, but i'd be more at risk of another miscarriage. Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I'm in the dark on this one! Thanks, Natalie

If your doctor is not knowledgeable of this disease,
time to get a different doctor.

************

A friend of ours had this issue and took the Heparin injections and the aspirin as prescribed.
She had one stroke, but fully recovered. Both Mom and Baby were healthy.
Thank God that the Mom did not have a 2nd stroke as she took the medicine.

For some, the only symptom of Hughes syndrome is recurrent miscarriage. Small blood clots affect the placenta, cutting off nutrients getting to the growing baby. So the miscarriage occurs.

Quick question: why not just take the Heparin injection and the aspirin every day?

Is it the cost of the medicine?
Fear of the injection?

For an optimal healthy Mom and Baby, your best bet, it seems to me
is the Heparin and aspirin.

FYI - Heparin is very cheap compared to other medicines. And you can't get anything cheaper than aspirin. The two combined do the trick.

You could give the injection to yourself or have a family member give it to you.

It is a short little needle.

Many people at home are on Heparin (or the more expensive Lovenox injections).
Even my 83 yo Mother has been on them at home several times.

It is your body and your choice.

The best chance for you and for baby is to use both the Heparin and the aspirin.

I'm sorry to hear about this, but I'm also glad you have a clear diagnosis and available treatment. I would most definitely take the heparin and aspirin if that was what my dr recommended for a healthy pregnancy.

Probably because you really cannot carry to term (or even to viability) without the drugs in this case. So since you asked, it made it seem like perhaps your doctor didn't inform you of the need to take the combo of drugs. I'm guessing? So sorry that you have to deal with this but I'm glad you have an explanation now. . .hopefully it will make things easier.
