I have a family member whose father witnessed his dad abuse his sisters when he was drunk. As a result he never laid a finger on his own kids - not for any reason. Because of this she never bonded with her dad because he never hugged her or anything. He had an irrational fear of turning into his dad and ended up ruining the relationship with his own daughter as a result. Turning to extremes is not the answer. There is nothing wrong with a dad spending time with his daughter like that. It is special and it should never be associated with anything impure. It is a totally different kind of relationship and it should be protected and valued.

Whoooooa. If you can't trust someone enough to feel they're appropriate with their own children you shouldn't be married to them.
