Angry I Have A Lip Ring So I Must Be A Bad Mom

Okay, so I just moved from tx back to ny two weeks ago. I haven't really been out of the house besides food shopping because of my bad knee acting up thanks to the cold. Well this weekend there was a big sale going on at Jcpenny's (anyone else go? ) and I thought why not go and pick some baby stuff up (at 70% off, how can you go wrong?). Well I went with my mom and some lady asked me how far a long I was and I told her 6 months. Then she gave me a dirty look and says "well your not keeping those holes in your face once that baby comes are you?" I wanted to smack her. I just replied with " what does having a lip ring have to do with being a good parent?" and she stuck up her nose and walked away.

Has anyone else had this happen to you? I mean every since when does having "holes in your face" make you a bad mom?

I listen to metal too. But I'm a big punk fan. I just don't see why it's a big deal. I don't drink or do drugs (never have never will) and I keep myself clean.

I get the strange looks in the summer when you can see my tattoos. I happen to like my body art and it in no way, shape or form has any impact on my parenting skills.

Now ladies. Didn't you know, once you become a mom, you are supposed to be MATRONLY. All softie sweety doughey dumplings who listen to lite fm, wear polyesther, and stop by for a wash and set at the local "curl up and dye." (apologies to anyone who really calls their beauty parlor that)

You are supposed to leave your wild, reckless, foolish youth behind because now you are old, wise, sedate, and dimpled MATRONS. No metal. No piercings except your ears (and not too many). No tattoos.

Now it is true that parenting will age you faster than anything you have ever done before. So it is expected that you will now become elderly.

Well, we don't always get what we expect in life, now do we?

So....

ROCK ON, YOU SEXY MAMAS!!!!!

Girls - there is absolutely nothing wrong with having tattoos and piercings and being a mom. You are who you are and being a mother just adds to it, and shouldn't take away from it...unless of course you are doing anything destructive like drugs or excessive alcohol. You are an individual and in no way shape or form should you have to conform to what anyone thinks a mother should be. As long as you raise your kids to be open and have morals and values it doesn't matter. Don't raise them to be like those judgemental people who are putting you down.

I have tattoos and my husband has a pierced tongue. We have 5 children all very well behaved and we've been told loads of times by the school how lovely our kids are and how they are a credit to us. Ignore the comments i'm sure you'll be a brilliant mum.

i completely agree with PP! piercings, tattoos, rainbow colored hair, etc hold no bearing on the type of parent you can be, or whether you are a good/bad person. you keep on being who you are and let everybody else think what they want!
