Question I'm a little confused...

NO I'm not prego, but my cousin is... She's told the family she's around 14 wk give a day or two. Well, she went to the dr for the first U/S and finds out she's having a boy! I saw the u/s and his little winky is plain as day. I was always told you can't really tell the sex til at least 18 wks at the earliest, but that would make her like a month farther along than she's saying.
Anyone know of finding out the sex this early?

Not that early.
I was 15 weeks 5 days with T and 16 weeks with J.
Although I was told that with 3d/4d that they can tell at about 13 weeks, but that they like to wait till 16 to tell you cuz of possible mix ups.
I am guessing that if you can see his little winky that well maybe she is lying about her due date???? Is there a reason she may not want people to know when she did indeed get preggo?

Yeah, she just got married the start of April, and annouced the pg less than a month later. Her hubby is the father so I don't know why she would unless she cheated before she got married... She lives in another state so I haven't seen her.

i've always heard 13 weeks, but they don't like to tell you until a few weeks later. a girl i went to church with said they told her around 11 weeks, nobody believed her but she definitely did end up with a boy in the end!

I posted a thread aboutt his last year when I was pregnant with jack because friends of ours found out they were having a girl at around 12 weeks. I didn't believe them, but they did indeed have a girl. I know there was a 50/50 chance they'd be right, but they were also told at around the same time for their first child and were right on that one too.

I am not sure if I would believe one so early is really accurate, but I'd be more likely to believe one that said "boy", rather than "girl". I think it was Samuel who commented on my thread that the external genitalia looks pretty much the same at this point, but maybe a very trained eye can spot the differences.

She could possibly be lying about her due date. I remember that thread from last year, and I also made the comment that some people find out "early" and are told they are having a boy when they are really having a girl. This early in pregnancy boys and girls look the same in that area. If the baby is a girl, then the "boy looking parts" (Families doesn't allow the actual word!) decend up into the body, making the girl's canal. So some people are told that they're having a boy when they're having a girl, but its very rare the other way around.

I bet Samual knows more about this! He always knows this stuff!

If I remember correctly from my genetics class. All fetuses are female until around eight weeks, if it is a male then around eight weeks the male parts will start to develop. I have no idea how long it would take for the male parts to then be identified on an ultrasound. But is impossible to tell the sex from an ultrasound prior to eight weeks.

Thanks guys. I talked to one of my aunts and said she's probly not being truthful about her date. I guess she made a comment at the wedding that her sister might have bet her to the alter first, but she knew she wouldn't get pg first. Hmmmmm. There's some very serious sibling rivaly *sp?* between the two.

But you ladies have informed me on some new stuff I never knew!

Theres a gender website I visit that they use the nub theory in earlier gestation. They're pretty accuarte, but they use a profile pics not a toilet shot at that age.
