Question im just outta ideas...UPDATE 6/30/08

So Kaydee got put on Prevacid about 2 months ago-ish. She was getting 1/2 the tab, and her formula was changed to Similac Sensitive AR. Things were wonderful, very small amount of spit up (usually only came with big burps or overeating) and she was sooo happy!!!!

Well about 3 weeks ago she started going down hill again. Tons fo crying spells, lots more spit up (and now shes eating jar food and thats NO fun )
I started giving her the whole tab. Worked for a few weeks until this past week. The past two days she has been SCREAMING bloody murder around lunchtime and in the evening. We try everything from Ora-Jel (in case its teething) to feeding her, rocking her, bath, etc. Nothing calms her down. She burps and farts (sry tmi) soooo much during these spells which last about 45 mins- hour when she finally falls asleep. When we try to feed her during this time she went back to arching, pulling away from the nipple, etc. She then usually wakes up from the sleep screaming (usually 2 hrs later) then spits up, and falls back to sleep.

Also the past month whenever we feed her she spits up for about an hour after. Usually just a little bit each time. But I would say its at least 4-5 times in an hour I am changing my clothes or hers.

Any ideas???? She was doing SO well I really dont wanna change her formula again...shes 7 months old and has been on 4 formulas!!!

I know you dont want to change formula again but really the Hypo. is sooo much better for babies with reflux. Plus she may have a milk protein allergy on top of the reflux. Also It is VERY common for them to grow out of their dose in about a month or two. Thats why its important to see a G.I. every other month. I would try the Hypo. again and I would call the Dr. about an increased dose. She may have had a growth spurt and put on some weight. It may just be teething but if her reflux symptoms are coming back then its most likely time to up the dose! HTH

(BTW: Nevys been on 7 formulas since birth! Enfamil(regular), Enfamil Soy, Enfamil AR, Enfamil Hypo., Enfamil gentlease, Similac Hypo. and Similac (regular). and she's no worse for it! )

Were you using cereal with the Hypo.? Cause really thats the only way it works. Doesnt matter what kind of cereal but you should add some. Thats why the AR seems better b/c it thickens but if she has an allergy then the milk protein may also be making her sick. You get the same effect by using cereal as you do by using AR its just the Hypo. doesnt have milk or soy protein. Nevy still gets 3 bottles a day and they ALL have 1-2 Tbs. of oatmeal in them. I even thicken her juice with fruit baby food(not that I give her juice very often).

Holy cow I cant even remember the last time Nevy vomited! I guess she must be doing well then! Humm maybe I should try taking her cereal away...

yea i always thickened it...a lot...however many scoops of formula i added, i put in the same amount of scoops of cereal.

Im SOOO happy Nevy is doing well....gives me some hope...

We had another screaming fest tonight, but i figured out the other day that if I stick her in the stroller and take her for a walk, she chills out and falls to sleep...so I guess I will be doing a ton of walking this summer

I'm sorry that you and Kaydee are going through this again. I hope she starts to feel better soon. Have fun walking! Is it going to be a hot summer where you live?

Kaydee had her GI appt today...

she is now 18lbs
and 28.5 inches long

I was told to give her the full dose of the prevacid (1/2 in the AM 1/2 b4 dinner)
She also told me "unoffically" that back in med school (70's) they weaned babies off formula at her age (8 months) So "unoffcially" if she does well w/ lactose free milk (which she does) she can have 1/2 lactose-free milk & /2 formula now. Obviously it has been working because she FINALLY gained some weight.

I just hope the puking stops altogether soon

Thats GREAT! I'm happy you found something that worked. Even with Nevy having a milk allergy she did really well with yogurt. So you can always try things like that to get calcium in her.
