Default Im not really sure how to post a blog so ill ask my question on here.

I am a psychology student and today in class we learned about babies learning to speak. We touched on the idea of younger sibilings learning how to speak. Do they speak before their older sibilings or after? She told us that half speak before especially if the sibilings are close in age and half speak after especially if they arent close in age, mostly because their older sibilings do the speaking for them. What are everyones takes on this? Did you experience this with yor children?

I had two children 5 years apart. The youngest took his time about talking. The oldest was having arguments with me by age 12 months.

The older was very outgoing, the younger a reflective thinker. I don't think the difference in their development was due so much to birth order as it was to being different personality types, and different physical types. When the younger one had something to say, he said it. The older one never shut up.

Blogging here is done by our own team of writers, this is not a public blogsite like blogger or wordpress. But you're welcome to post in our forums anytime.

I have 5 children with various age gaps. Jack was saying 100 words by 18 months, three years later i had Molly would only say yes and no at 2 but was talking in full sentences by 3. 16 months after Molly arrived I had Luke who was talking in full sentences my 18 months. Then there was a 4 year gap and I had Josh, He has been diagnosed with an expressive and receptive language delay and now 4 he still talks in very disjointed sentences. I had Libby 2 years after Josh and she is a huge chatterbox. She understands everything and talks in 2-3 word sentences.

Don't know if this will help as my oldest has a Speech/language problem. Did not speak till he was 3. He has the same thing that Joe's, Josh does.

His baby brother though started saying words at one and now as 2 1/2 says complete sentences and can carry on a conversation
