Unhappy Immunizations-Side Effects/Pros & Cons

My son had severe vomiting after receiving his 4-month vaccinations, yet I found all the health care workers (his physician and the doctors at the hospital, where I had to take him...I was very worried as he was so little and had hardly anything in his tummy to begin with) very hesitant to agree that the shots could be the cause.

I feel certain they were. The vomiting began about 9 hours after the shots, and he was fine (though weak) the next day. He had no fever, and, most important, no one else in my household was sick. (We have a 4-year-old, too, and if one of us gets a stomach bug then we all get it.) Also, the baby was not in daycare, nor could he crawl about yet, getting all kinds of illnesses mouthing things.

I am thinking that immunization side are probably underreported if this sort of thing happens very often. I support vaccinations, but I feel parents should be informed and also that folks should admit it when it is likely that the shot caused a problem.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Also, I'm wondering if anyone has chosen not to vaccinate their child and, if so, why.

Did your doctor give you an information sheet on the immunizations? My doctor has always done that, and it lists possible side effects. I honestly can't say if vomiting was one of them or not, because I never kept any of them, but I do know that I have always felt very informed before I have made that decision. I switched doctors after my first two children were born because although he was an excellent doctor, as far as knowing his stuff, he didn't believe that moms knew anything. He didn't believe in mother's intuition, he always told me not to believe what my mom and grandma told me about things. I had a similar situation to yours, with my first daughter when she was getting her immunizations. About 1-2 weeks after she got her shots, she would get an ear infection. She didn't get them any other time. When I asked her then doctor about it he said it was pure coincidence. A year or two later I had to take her to the urgent care clinic at our hospital for something (I think it was an ear infection, in the right time frame from immunzations) and I asked the doctor who treated her, about it. He said that he believed that immunizations, although a wonderful barrier to other horrible diseases, can sometimes, weaken the immune system for a short time, making it harder for her body to fight off what ever. Maybe that is what happened to your son. Whatever the case, I hope you figure it out. Good luck to you.

The doctor didn't give me an info. sheet, oddly enough! I found out online that his potty problems could indeed be a side effect of all those shots. That's interesting about the immune system and it makes perfect sense. I have actually heard that vitamin C is important to give to kids before shots for that very reason. In fact, some medical folks believe that malnourished children are more likely to die after immunizations in impoverished countries because their immune systems can't handle the shots. This view is contested, however.

Default Vomits after immunization.

My son vomits after immunization shots and I know it's the shots. I don't care what any doctor says. This is the second time and noone in the family got sick however the doctors and nurses feel it's a bug but it's the second time. Anyone have the same problem?
