In need of support
I am close to doing something really selfish. I think I need a bit of support. After Devon was born I put on a few pounds, and my appetite is outrageous. A friend of mine is dropping the pounds using Alli, and I really want to try it, and am close to giving up breastfeeding so I can take it. I have class all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays and work evenings, so I keep trying to justify giving up by thinking that I'm pretty much "there" already, since Devon has formula half to time.
Don't get me wrong-- I really, really enjoy BF. It is such a great connection, and Devon likes it. That makes me feel horrible when I think about not breastfeeding anymore so I can try to lose weight! I feel really selfish just thinking about it.
Anyway, thanks for reading! Just writing this out makes me really realize how ridiculous I sound! LoL!

s You know the old saying, 9 months on, 9 months off. Although, it can certainly take longer! I know it's frustrating, but try not to worry so much about your weight right now. You have all the time in the world to worry about that.

Why are you so worried about losing weight? You can always lose weight later. I'm not a skinny person, I am overweight, but try not to let it bother me. Does the extra baby weight bother you? Try not to think about it, you won't be breastfeeding forever and will be able to work at losing weight later. I know we live in a society where thinness is prided on and it is very hard to be self confidant about who we are. You are you and there is NOTHING wrong with that.

You can loose weight in a few months, you can't start back up breastfeeding ina few months. Enjoy this time with your little guy, the weight, can wait.

Breastfeeding actually leads to weightloss! You use up an extra 500 calories a day by doing it. I would stick with the breastfeeding for at least until your baby is 12 months old!

i'm very small, 5'1 & between 103 - 108lbs (depending on the time of month lol). but i was still 111-115 until izzy was a year. that was on top of excercising and my bonus 500 calorie burning through BF. It took a year for your body to get that way, it's going to take a year to bounce back. I agree with the other ladies, you can lose weight later, you can't BF him later.
but now on to alli.... i haven't personally heard anybody say they were big fans of it. it's expensive and if you treat yourself one day -- you'll be paying for it immediately. i prefer a diet where you watch what you eat and really exercise 6 days a week, then you give yourself a day to relax and splurge (in moderation) 1 day. Sundays were my lazy/spoiling days.

Personally, I think Alli is torture. And so unnecessary. By breastfeeding, you already have a weight loss aid. Do you really need a pill to force you to eat well by punishing you with excessive & explosive diarrhea should you cheat? You are not burning 500 calories per day anymore if your baby is drinking formula--but you're still burning calories just by sitting and nursing. Now you need to make healthier food choices and see if you can't dust off those walking shoes and get some exercise! All Alli would do is force you to make better food choices and dust off your walking shoes--but if you keep breastfeeding you can skip the explosive diarrhea part. Here's an article I wrote awhile ago while researching Alli:

I have heard some awful horror stories about this. Stories about women "exploding" in public. I don't remember the specifics except for one about a very embarassing theater experience...and one about a woman on her wedding day. Its just bad, bad stuff.
