inconsolable crying...too old for colic
Hey, it's been a while since I've posted.
Aiden is now 11 months old. He started running fever Sunday afternoon and ran it off and on all day Monday. I didn't worry too much because I try to watch fevers for a few days before going to the doctor and he's cutting his eye teeth. The fever broke and on Tuesday he acted fine all day. Tuesday evening he began to get fussy, and I noticed white spots in his mouth. Great - thrush! Tuesday night he was fussy and woke up off and on all night. I took him to the doctor yesterday and sure enough, thrush. He acted like he felt fine, though.
Last night, though...I started putting him down for bed around 8 when he started to act tired. I nursed him and rocked him to sleep. After he slept for maybe 30 minutes, he woke up grunting and crying. From that point on, it was a battle all night. I finally got him up out of the bed and took him to the couch to watch his Baby Einstein video thinking that maybe he was half awake and that would wake him up all the way and I could start over from there. He fussed around and nursed and would almost fall asleep, but he wouldn't let himself sleep. He would scream (no tears) in short bursts. It was awful. Finally about 11:30 he started playing.
Aaron got home from work and took over couch duty while I did homework. About 12:30 he got Aiden to settle down enough to fall asleep on his chest. Two o'clock he's back awake doing the screaming thing. Around 2:30 Aaron wrapped Aiden up in his swaddling thing and he said that Aiden slept for a couple of hours. Then at four he was awake screaming again. Aaron brought him to me and Aiden nursed for a while, but then he was sitting up, arching his back, etc again. Today he's been fine...until nap time.
He got tired about 1 and Aaron was able to settle him down and get him to sleep and then about 1:45 the wailing began. I let him cry/scream in his crib for about 45 minutes before I came in and got him. It took another hour of holding him for him to be ok.
He isn't crying with tears. It's mostly arching of the back and screaming. It really doesn't sound like a painful scream, though. I honestly think he's trying to stay awake because he only arches his back when he's gotten into a comfortable position and been still for a minute. Also, I gave him gas drops last night thinking that the back arching was due to gas pains. I also put ambesol on the gums thinking it might be a teething thing. Neither helped.
Any ideas?

izzy's been doing this the past few nights, but i think it's because my mom watched her and she's afraid we're leaving her again. i'm sure it's just a phase, a frustrating one, but just a phase.

Pretty normal. I did read the medicine for the thrush can cause stomach problems but it had been about 4 hours from the time he had the medicine this morning to the naptime fit.

Yeah, so far it's just been when he's been tired. I thought it might be a tantrum which is the main reason I let him cry this afternoon for a while when he woke up so soon. But he didn't go back to sleep. Just cried. He was just standing in his crib screaming when I came in to check on him.

I would call the doctor and explain what he has been doing. Maybe its a reaction to the meds for thrush. Maybe it hurts to lay down? If he wasn't sick, I would say it's a phase, but with him being sick, it wouldn't hurt to check. Maybe he is miserable all the time but can't take anymore when he gets tired?
Good luck! It sucks having a sick baby. I hate the guessing game of what to do to make them better.

Maybe it's teeth? The night before Vinnie got his first tooth he cried for HOURS straight... We took him to the ER, and by then he was asleep, go figure. But all through out the night, he would wake up and scream. Sleep for 15 minutes, and wake up screaming. The next afternoon, he went to chew on my figure, and boom, 2 bottom teeth! Check him mouth, maybe they are just giving him problems?
