Default Infant Influenza shot question

My daughter went in last week for her one year well baby visit. The doctor said that he would give her the first dose of her Influenza shot then and that I would need to come back in four weeks for her to get her second dose. He said to make an appointment with the front desk to come back in four weeks. When I tried doing that, the lady said that they were currently out and that I would have to call this week to see if they had anymore in. I called today and the lady said they're still out but that if they can get some in, they are going to schedule a clinic for Sunday, Dec. 13th at 9:10 a.m. She said that I would need to call back in a few weeks to see if they've gotten more in to see if we can go for the clinic on 12/13. I got a little upset and questioned why the doctor would even give her the 1st dose if the 2nd isn't even available. She told me that Kaylie doesn't even really need the 2nd dose, that the 1st dose will protect her from the Flu. I am so confused. Does anyone here know if that is true and I should just forget about getting her the 2nd dose?

Thanks in advance!

Ummm... not sure about this. My Robert got both of his doses. I have to go and get his flu shot this month. I would definitely call the Dr and ask him specifically. Nurses may not have all the right info. This is critical in my book.

Gabby had a reaction a few days after having her first dose and although we didn't think the reaction was the flu shot (it was 4 days after) my dr said that i could forgo the second shot as she would have some protection (i'm guess that if she got the flu then the flu shot would help her fight it but she probably still get fairly sick) but not as much as if she had the second shot... Gabby second was also over 4 weeks as it needed to be ordered in but my dr said that was alright

Thank you for the responses. I found the phone number to our Public Health department and I will call them tomorrow to see if they have the second dose available.
