Instead of Dryer Sheets?
New at Target, found on Website.
Was wondering if anyone has ever tried someting like this. Would love to get rid of Dryer Sheets! What does everyone think?? Thanks
Nellie's Dryer Balls
$19.99
• Non-toxic, allergy-free PVC balls soften fabrics without chemicals
• Includes 2 dryer balls, for use with all regular fabrics
• Lift and separate clothes, make the air circulate more efficiently, and dry faster
• Small tips retain heat and massage the clothes' fibers, making them soft and fluffy
• Safe and natural, better for clothes, Baby's nose and eyes, and the dryer's components
Fluffing is natural with Nellie's Dryer Balls. The non-toxic, allergy-free way to soften fabrics, the bumpy dryer balls massage your laundry's fibers to make everything from your jeans to your sheets soft and fluffy. Eliminating so many chemicals from the process, the low-tech and highly effective little wonders leave no worries about airborne irritants and toxins given off by fabric softeners in clothes. And they're safer because fabric softeners leave an oil coating on clothes, take the fire . . .
• You may return this item to any Target store.

How long do they last? They sound expensive.

Re: Instead of Dryer Sheets?
If these are the lint balls that have been in those magazines like harriet carter then those things dont work and they are a pain in the *ss the get in and out of the washer.

Would make them last longer! (no lint removed to clog up the dryer filter)
I usually try to do that with towels anyway, since they usually have more water in them, they tend to take longer to dry, and I hate using electricity!
I'll usually hang dry my clothes, but leave my wife's in the dryer...she's picky about it too! Besides, I don't like my pants shrinking!

Re: Instead of Dryer Sheets?
Thanks for all your ideas! I wish I could hang my clothes but I am in an apartment, upstairs. and they dont like us to hang them on the pourch. I still put out my towels on a small drying rack. I think I will try the foil ball, thanks! I did not think about the PVC chemicals, thanks for the info! You gals are great!
I re-use my dryer sheets (free or cheap) on the end of my Swifter! Those Swifter refills are to expensive. I take two used dryer sheets and it picks up pet/human hair and dust, just not big crumbs. I run them by hand along the sides of my hall for a quick clean up then toss. I wish I could find a way to make them stick to the end of the Swifter better...

I do like to keep a opened box inside closets and near the linens to get that "ahhh" smell when you open the door.
DH's grandfather was a TV repairman, and DH is an engineer specializing in testing video. DH says never to wipe the TV with anything other than a regular cloth. Almost all TVs have a special coating on the glass for anti-glare, and a lot of things can take this coating off.

Re: Instead of Dryer Sheets?
I would love to hang dry my clothes, but my only clothesline is in the basement, and that is where our three kitty litter boxes are. Wouldn't the clothes pick up the litter box smell?
I could try to talk DH into putting a clothesline in the backyard, but then I have to worry about the dogs pulling them down.

Re: Instead of Dryer Sheets?
We have our basement hanging racks in the same room w/ our cat's litter. The smell of it doesn't enter the clothes (and it isn't the cleanest litter either). We have 2 reg clothes racks and one rack w/ 2bars. That one does save space over having 2 separate ones. Hang drying adds moisture to air during the winter for houses that run dry then. You know your air is dry when jeans dry in 12 hours in the basement!! We use vinegar instead of dryer sheets. Hang drying and vinegar definitely do extend the life of clothes IMO. Hang drying is the biggest saver of clothes.
For those w/o room for multiple hanging racks, I have seen the coolest gadget on QVC a couple of times. I am thinking about getting it for when we travel. It folds up close to the size of an umbrella. It is a rack for storing, holding, hanging clothes. It has 3 arms and holds like 80 hangers total?? Supposedly super strong. Folks calling in love them. THey are also great for garage sales. They fit in bath tubs (supposedly). I think it would work well for those in smaller spaces.

Instead of Dryer Sheets
I use my inexpensive hair conditioner in my old downy ball as a fabric softener and my Dad just rubs 1 tablsp of conditioner into a towel and tosses it into thedryer with the other clothes. Since I hang dry a lot of things I like it in the washer.

I have a set of dryer balls and I love them - they make my clothes and towels fluffier, they reduce drying time and save me lots of money that would otherwise have been spent on dryer sheets.... and I'm saving money on my energy bills too!
