Question Iron level & Cheerios?

At 9 months the Dr. checked Nevy's iron level. She said it was a little on the high side. We figured it was b/c she was still eating a lot of formula plus oatmeal in her bottles. I was told to try and get her to drink less formula and try more soilds. It wasnt easy but after 3 months I finally have her eating 3 regular meals a day and only one 8oz bottle.

Well last week when she was sick the Dr. did a blood test and her Iron level came back VERY low. The Dr. said it could be b/c she is sick but I think it's b/c now that she doesnt drink as much formula she's not getting enough iron in her diet.

I've heard that Multi-grain Cheerios have 100% of the daily value of iron in them with just one cup. Nevy eats cheerios like crazy. She loves them. The dr. wants to re-test her iron level in a month. I want to try everything I can to get the level back up before that appt. so I dont have to put her on a supplement (I mean come on the kids only been med free for a few months now I dont want to have her back anything even iron!). So what are some good ways to get her iron back up? Does anyone know about the MG cheerios?? Do they have more iron then regular cheerios??

Thanks ladies!

We don't have any cereal, broccoli contains high amounts of iron and of course, so does red meat.

Multi grain Cheerios have 100 for adults (the box is right here and the Cheerios are in my tummy).
Eat broccoli and (if she can) beans.

Kate eats chicken, will Nevy eat chicken? Does she have enough teeth for it? Cheerios is also a very good idea. So is broccoli if she'll eat it. Kate used to eat broccoli cut into very small peices mixed with white rice and a little cheese.

Try giving her some braunsweiger on a cracker. It is like a paste so she really doesn't need any teeth and it is really high in iron. It is something like pate, and I personally do not care for it but when Penny was having issues with her iron levels I fed her ritz crackers spread with braunsweiger and it really did bring up her iron. She didn't mind the taste either, at 11 months, so maybe Nevy will go for it.

One word of caution, it gives babies really stinky breath! .

I used to puree the veges. You can strain broccoli yourself - just boil it very soft and mash up the heads.

Give her a taste for it!!!
