Hi I'm new to this ...... Have a question for you guys

Is it appropriate for a 7 year old to watch the Simpsons?
My son is a mature 7 year old and has been watching The Simpsons for about a month now. I watch the show with him and really don't find anything wrong with this.... Yes, it is a little racy and it does deal with life, the world in a extremely sarcastic way, and Homer is a character to say the least, but that's what makes it funny and my son gets that. He really understand the humor. There is always a positive ending, showing how wrong there behavior was and why.... The reason I'm asking is because members of my family who don't watch the show, think there is a problem with my son watching it and I wanted to asked others opinion on this..... He's not allow to watch what ever is on. He is monitored and doesn't watch a lot of television, when he does it's usually Nickelodeon....
