is it important to get a D&C after a m/c?
my husband and i just lost our first baby last week. i didn't find out i was pregnant til 6 weeks and was only healthy for two days after that. i had a miscarriage over a three week period and afterwards they did one last ultrasound to see if everything had come out on its own and they told me it did and i was fine. but now i am at home and having lots of cramps, some bleeding and a few clots, nausea, and exhaustion. i was wondering if anyone had some advice on whether a D&C would have been a good thing to get, or should i go back to the doctors and have them check it out? i am confused and not sure how important D&C's are. my doctor was not pushing for a D&C, but i hope i made the right choice. i just want to make sure i am healthy because we want to get pregnant again soon [although i have to wait til after my period to start trying again because the doctor said i needed to let my body heal]. so if anyone has advice about how you feel after a miscarriage, what is normal, what is not normal, and how important a D&C is that would be very helpful. i am very new to all this...

I am sorry about your loss.
Could the cramps and clots be your period coming back??
I think if the Dr said everything was ok that it is probably just your first period.
But I am no expert.
Good luck to you.

very sorry for your loss...
i had two miscarriages without D&C. The bleeding and clots were pretty heavy for a while (3-4 days), but then it tapered off like a period does. If the bleeding and clots are intense (ESPECIALLY if you are soaking one pad or more an hour) give your doctor a call. After my first miscarriage it took a while for my periods to get back on track. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Ditto, I've had a few m/c and I refused the d/c for all of them. D/C might make it more difficult to conceive in the future. It sounds like the bleeding you are experiencing now is within the range of normal.

I am so sorry for your loss! ((((hugs))) I don't have a any real advice- but I understand what you're going through. I too miscarried early, and the bleeding and cramps were heavy at first- in fact for about a week! Since I miscarried at almost 9 weeks, the dr said I probably wouldn't need the D&C and now I think I am on the mend. (physically, at least) I don't know if there is a textbook answer- but that our bodies are all different. Whatever you find out, hang in there!

to give an update i ended up having to have a D&C which i had hoped to not have to, but the bleeding was so bad...and then less than a week later i had to go back because i was bleeding extremely heavy again and passing tons of clots...but i am finally doing better. but they think i had a molar pregnancy...still trying to learn everything...not sure what a molar pregnancy thing is exactly but they had to run more tests on me cause they think that the molar pregnancy was caused by something else wrong with my body. i will find out in a few days if there is anything wrong with me, but i hope to alright and able to ttc again later this week!! very hopeful right now!

If the doctor says everything is gone do not put your body through a d&c. I've had 8 miscarriages and the only one I needed a d&c with was my 15 week pregnancy. I did notice that after each miscarriage my period would change so that might be what happened to you.
Sorry about your loss
