Default Is there a new limit of using 5 ECB?

Today my daughter bought $30 worth of items at CVS, using mfc and crts. She had a number of ECBs to pay for the total. The register beeped on the first ecb, and the mgr refused to take her ECBs. She asked them to call corp, which they refused, so she voided the transaction. At home she called corp, who told her she could use ECBs like cash. While she was on the line corp called the manager in question and told him. They are sending my dd a gift card for her trouble.

DD went back to CVS to repurchase her stuff and when the register beeped, the mgr called corp for instructions. they told him that only a total of 5 CVS coupons could be used per transaction. DD then voided transaction and divided up order. This time she only had 3 CVS coupons/ECBs, but the register beeped. She spent a full hour trying to check out, and again had to leave without her items.

Anyone know what is going on?

Default Maybe

Maybe she could call customer service and have them send her an e-mail stating that they can take more than 5 ECBs at a time. Then she could print it and take it in the store with her to show the cashier. Maybe even a different store if you have one nearby. Good luck.

Hmmmmm that's new one.

But the two comments from Corporate don't jive. Because if she used 5 other CVS coupons on her merchandise, how would she be able to 'use her ECB like cash'?

Doesn't make much sense? Was she trying to use more than one of the same coupon?

It doesnt sound like the manager (or store) is the problem; sounds like the ecbs are. Im guessing she is having 30 coupon limit trouble too. When you get the "coupon not valid for card" errors, the register only lets you use ("override") one ecb per transaction.
Have your dd try and use the same ecb as before and have her ask the cashier if "coupon not valid for card" comes up. If it does then she has the 30 coupon problem. Ask for that ecb back and try some others. The ones most recently printed should go through fine.

One of the stores here didn't allow me to use a 3/15 and a ecb. Since acc. to them, both apply towards total purchase and only '1 total purchase' coupon is allowed per transaction.

Call 800shopcvs .

My favorite CVS kind of went from the penthouse to the outhouse in the last week. They had always let me stack dollar off qs (last week they let me use 10/50, 4/20, 5/15, and 3/15 in $60 subtotal). Then, all of a sudden, Friday the manager wouldnt let me use more than one manufactures q in a transaction. Sunday, he said one CVS q per purchase (no using multiple ecbs, no cvs coupons together even though they didnt exclude combining in the fine print). I called Tuesday about both probs and the CS rep said he would contact the district manager; I'll probably go see if they've changed today.

Don't know how to quote yet, but...

quote: "One of the stores here didn't allow me to use a 3/15 and a ecb. Since acc. to them, both apply towards total purchase and only '1 total purchase' coupon is allowed per transaction."

I tried to do this today and this is the exact same explanation that I got from my local CVS. The cashier pointed out that at the bottom of the ECB it read "Not to be combined with other CVS coupons." She said you could use one or the other, but not both. Sounds like more and more stores are starting to enforce this policy.

Just this past week I had 2 instances at my favorite store where the register would only let me use a total of 4 coupons (2 manu and 2 ECB) per transaction and I purchased 8 items total. It wouldn't let her override them either. I was wondering if they had reprogrammed their registers or something.

Default What I heard...

I looked - and the crt coupons do say "not to be combined" - but I think by the word "combined" they are referring expressely to the use of 2 coupons for the same item. For example "$2.50 off $10 in cvs brand items" which could combine with "$2 off $10 in cvs brand items" from the pharmacy booklet. To use 2 cvs coupons on the same transaction, but on different items - for example - a Skin Effects coupon, and a Softsoap (crt) coupon - they are not combining.
If anything - i think they did this to be more clear - the old "limit one per customer" was so vague that many cashiers would allow one crt and absolutely nothing else. That was never the intention - it was meant to be 'one of this particular coupon' - so if you had 2 softsoap crts, you could only use 1 in a single transaction. This is proven by the computer beeping if you try to use 2 of the same cvs coupon - but not beeping if you use 2 different cvs coupons.
Further - the ECB's that I have (from yesterday ) don't have the same limitation as the coupons. They still say "limit one per customer." Again, i think this is meant to distinguish between an ecb and a crt coupon.
Also, I have made purchases at 5 different cvs's in the last week - just to test these issues out - and every single store has accepted all my coupons - mrf and crt, as well as all my ecb's. The only exception was an employee who wrongly refused a mfr coupon on a clearance priced item. I did have 1 beep, it was over rode, and the rest of the coupons went through.
*Now, the last bit of info I want to confer - maybe the most useful. When having a little bit of trouble last week, (over an email $10 off $50) I encouraged the clerk to ask the manager. She did, and the manager was ok with it. Another coupon beeped, she hesitated again, and again, I said, "go ahead and ask, I'm sure it's fine." She did, and he ok'd again. This clerk is normally very nice, so I asked why she's so hesitant. She explained that a week before (about 2 weeks ago now) - all the employees had to read a document on a new coupon policy. Not that the rules have changed for you and me - but have changed for how the system is accounted for. Any time a coupon beeps, or an override is performed - the clerk must sign a form, document the reason for the error, and staple the offending coupon to the form. She said they are cracking down because of 'abuse' - which could mean some employees stuffing the register with coupons. (she said this).
I suspect no one is stuffing, but rather, they have lots of couponers like us.
I want to affirm, the store was very nice about it, and wants to take my coupons - they didn't stop me from doing anything - but they did want to explain why there is much more inspection on the part of the employees.
A few days later, the same clerk told me that the next day, the same manager had asked her why she had over-ridden the coupon. She said she got the ok from him, and didn't document it because he had given the ok. It just establishes their careful accounting that is now going on.
Also, it is possible they are instituing stronger rules in the registers, and imposing it in some stores - during a trial period. That being said, I was able to use a bunch of coupons - mfr, crt, pharmacy book, and ecb's - all at once - in a couple of stores - no problem - here in upstate NY. So, whatever issue others are having - i think, in part, the employees are a little scared to do the overrides at this time.
