i think this is horrible! the "artist's" arguement was that the dog was starving on the street anyway, so it would die eventually. i think that the artist should be punished for his act. along with everyone who went to see the exhibit!

The museum/gallery should be fined and held responsible.
Why tie the dog up? Why not keep blogging by tracing what happens to the animal in the street with a photo essay, video, etc, and then retrieve his carcass?
If this is art, then maybe art really is murder.
What if the "process" of the art were interrupted by people retrieving the animal? Wouldn't that be art too?
If this is the best that Costa Rica can do for an international art exhibition, then they must have sunk to the depravity of an artless civilization. And as for the artist a few questions: Got Nerve? Yeah, I guess he does. Got Skill? Unlikely.

Personally I find art to be the expression of ones own emotions/ideas/etc.
I do not see how the suffering of one can be deemed expression of another.
I am a vegetarian and I support animal rights - and even despite that I can even understand parts of a dead animal even being used in an expressive manner. I don't SUPPORT it, but I can understand how it could be called art..
But this? Not at all. This is not and never will be art.

I can see exhibiting the carcass, and video of the animal dying in the street. But how is it art when a dying dog is tied up in a strange place and people come to watch? No one attenpted a rescue, or to put him out of his misery?
Not art, just an excuse. And the fact that the artist is now recognized over other artists is just saying that outrageous stunts are more recognized as art than skill and real concept.

So...if we take a third world child that was starving in the streets and was "going to die anyways" and tie them up and let the world see the die, would THIS be considered art! NO!
Why is it then that this poor dog is art. This is dispicable and the artist and the gallery should be charged and put in jail!

Even if there was nothing to do for the dog, you put the dog to sleep. How can this even be within the law? Harming any animal is disgusting, but harming in this way is horrific.

i didn't read this specific article, however i did research on it a few weeks back. apparently the dog WAS fed during the exhibit (closing hours, etc). not an excuse, but at least he was fed & taken care of somewhat.

Absolutely NOT art! What a disgusting, sick person! I can't believe that the poor dog wasn't rescued by one of the many gallery-goers! How sick. It makes me so sad!
