Exclamation IUD's and Pregnancy

Okay so... I had my son on December 31, 2007. My six week check up was February 11th, 2008. I hadn't really stopped bleeding (TMI?) from my son's birth and had the Mirena IUD inserted that day. A week later I started bleeding. I thought it was my period, but I've bled since. It's now April 4th, 2008 and I've bled since February 20, 2008. That's six weeks and two days of bleeding... this can't be normal. I've also learned you can get pregnant on this IUD. I'm getting a test today and possibly making an appointment to get it taken out. But do the nurses here think it's possible????

This is one of the reasons I chose NOT to get the IUD. My OB said that breakthrough bleeding is common for months after the insert. You shouldn't be bleeding as heavy as a period though(if you are I'd make an appt NOW).

Anyhow, I was told that once it stops you generally only get spotting sporadically. No birthcontrol is 100% but the Mirena is supposed to be pretty affective if inserted correctly..

Good luck!

I was done bleeding at my PP, and had the IUD put in. I did bleed for a few days after, then spotted 2-3 more days, 5-6 total. I never had breakthrough bleeding after that first, what I think was AF, due to the hormones in the IUD. I did notice that AF was lighter and farther apart until she stopped totally.

Sorry forgot to ask, did they do a PG test? If that was BFN then I would really think your ok, maybe call you dr back and tell them you are still bleeding. Is it heavy, light, spotty?

Ollie, I didn't know you used Mirena? How long did it take you to get pg after having it removed? I am curious b/c I have considered this method for after this pregnancy.

They didn't do a pregnancy test at my PP appt because nothing had happened... I made dh promise no BDing until the appointment. I took a test today and so far it was neg so Im not worried I'm just aggrivated. It's bright red when I do bleed and by the end of the day it brown... like I'm having mini AF's!!!!

well having only taken 1-2 months of BC pills between Kat, Kelli and Court, and it taking 3-4 years for us. It took no time at all!! It was taken out early March of 2007, and we got the BFP on Oct 13 07.

Yep up to 5 years, the copper is up to 7. I did not have it in long, just a little over a year. We thought since it would take so long, we should start trying. In hopes that within 2-3 years we could have another one, we did not plan on it happening so soon!!!!!

I know my sil had it done last end sept/start of oct last yr. She complained about bleeding on and off til Jan. She hates it and has talked several times about removing it, but not wanting to go threw the trouble...

My cousin has had it for 2yrs now and loves it. She's never had a kid though so her side-effects might be different. She had spotting the 2 months after she got it, but since then no problems.

Guess it just depends on how your body takes it. Good luck and hope things work out for ya.
