Default I've lost my tolerance for contacts

I haven't had a pair of glasses for eight years. i look stupid in them. Until....the magic pair of glasses I got a few months ago which I look fantastic in. So excited about my new glasses i stopped wearing contacts for a few weks. Now I can't wear contacts for longer than half an hour with out itching swelling etc. Anyone else havethis happen? I would love to go back to contacts at least some of the time.

Default Back to the specs

My hubby used to wear contacts most of the time, and a friend of mine wouldn't be seen dead without them. This went on for some years but around the same time, they both developed problems similar to what you describe. Maybe it's a tolerance thing. Or maybe it's an AGE thing. EEK!

Age thing?
I used to wear my contacts literally 7 days a week and rarely took them out. I almost think my eyes are way too excited about breathing for a change. I'm headed to the eye doctor this week for my glasses adjustment/follow up. I may try and talk to him about it.

Maybe it's only that your eyes need a little breathing space. They've been living in glass houses for too long!! Good luck at the doctors!

Thanks
I look pretty smart in my glasses, but I really miss the freedom I had with my contacts. Maybe I can politely apologize to my eyes for the contact situation and they'll forgive me.

My husband had been wearing contacts all the time, but then had an eye problem and had to wear glasses only for a while. When he went back to wearing contacts the eye doctor told him to start out gradually only wearing contacts for a few hours at a time at first to get used to the contacts again. I don't remember this because it was many years ago, but my mom said that that is what the doctor told me when I started wearing contacts for the first time ever - to start out slowly to get used to the contacts.

Amazingly, my friend and I were discussing the same thing last week. I tried to wear contacts in either my junior or senior year of high school and it just didn't work out. I had a lot of trouble getting them in my eyes.

My friend, however, wore them for awhile and described what you're describing. Perhaps ones eyes simply tires of them after awhile?

So...My dog ate my glasses last week. He apparently didnt think I looked as good in them as I thought I did. I went and got a pair of night and day contacts from the eye doctor (you leave them in) and...They work!!!
These are thinner than the traditional and much more breathable, so maybe my eyes decided to compromise.

Default Contacts

There's been a lot of innovation in contacts lately. I had the same problem a few years ago. When I saw the eye doctor he recommended Acuvue Oasys and they have worked great. I've also heard that O2 Optix are also much better than most contacts but I've never tried them.

I had a similar problem after I was on the anti-acne drug accutane for 6 months.

I used to be able to wear my contacts over night, but now I can only stand them for a few hours without needing some eye drops.

Switching to the Acuvue Oasys lenses helped a bit.
