James Joseph birth story
Well as you all know I was scheduled for a c-section because the baby was breech and because of his size. I went into the hospital at 6:30am on 7/26 for an 8:30 section. The surgery was pushed back for 30 minutes and at 9:29am James was delivered. The c-section went easy. The baby caused a few issues due to his position! He was so high up and appeared to be hiding since he did not want to come out! It was the after the delivery thatI had complications. When they took me from recovery to my room, all the side effects of the spinal hit me. The nurses had to give me meds to make me feel some what better but that knocked me out. So my first few hours after are definitely a blur!
I was told I could leave the hospital either Tuesday or Wednesday. I decided to leave on Tuesday because I was getting home sick, and I couldn't get comfortable in the hospital. While I was there the nurses had me start to put cabbage in my bra 24 hours a day so that my milk would not come in. (has anyone heard of this?) It did not work and on Wednesday I began to produce milk, which has not been a fun experience for me.
Before delivery I began to swell, but that was normal because of the heat and I was 9 months preggers. After the c-section I swelled even more, and the docs/nurses said it was from all the fluids I was given, and it would take up to 2 weeks to go away. Like I said I came home Tuseday and I was really swollen by the night. My mom is staying with us (that's a story for another post) and couldn't believe how bad my feet were, and said if they got any worse she was going to call the OB in the morning. We went up to bed, and I cried all the way up the steps as my feet hurt worse then my incision! Wednesday morning they were no better but in fact worse then the day before. We called the OB and they wanted to see me, so I went in and they drew blood and put me on iron pills and I would know the results at my appointment on Friday as I had to go for my staples to be checked. I went to my appointment on Friday and my bloodwork came back good, but the OB put me on a water pill to help reduce the fluid level. So it's just a matter of time before my swelling goes down.
Back to James. He is absolutely perfect! He eats really well, and sleeps really well during the day. He is ok at night, but a little restless. He eats every 2 hours and goes to right back to sleep. He only cries when he is hungry or needs a diaper change.
I will definitely post pics when I figure out how!

Sorry you are having a rough time - recovering from pregnancy and surgery is a biggie. And big babies don't want to come out! They are all comfy in there! Don't worry about the breastfeeding, it is sore at first, but take your time, get lots of rest, let mom and others pamper you. I predict with a baby this size, you will have a hungry man. My oldest was a 10 pounder, and he wanted to nurse every hour on the hour at first. I found it exhausting.
Go with it and know that it gets easier and less frequent. Right now your body is building supply and James is learning a thing or two about demand!
I want you to take care of yourself, and take every offer of help and every amount of leave from work you get. Recovery from a c section and getting acclimated to all the post partum stuff is not for wimps - or heros. Take it one day at a time, and take all the help you can get.

Oops, I just realized that you were trying to dry up milk. Sorry! No, I never heard of cabbage leaves.

Yes--cabbage leaves is a pretty common trick for minimizing your breastmilk production. I've never heard of someone getting cabbage leaves in the hospital though. It shouldn't prevent your milk completely, but you it will help.

congrats... you could try expressing just a little bit of milk until you feel comfortable, that will probably take longer to dry up but at least you wont be in pain

Congrats on your darling baby boy!
Take good care of yourself. You just had major surgery and will take some time to heal.
Allow others to help you around the home, shopping, doing chores, making meals.
Your job is to get better and take good care of baby. Since you are bottle feeding, others can get up with him at night so you can sleep a bit more.
I have never heard of the cabbage leaves story before.
Are you certain that you didn't find baby boy in the cabbage patch? *giggles*
Congrats!
